Premium Members Eric Fletcher S.O.C. Posted June 14, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 14, 2006 Somehow a decent thread about steadicam in music videos ended up with someone beating up on it without very constructive criticism. Don't get that. Agreed. Guy's let's refrain from posting about the quality of TV and stick with Music Videos that we like.
Premium Members Peter Abraham Posted July 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 30, 2006 there's a channel called MTV that's been around for a while. You know what they say- Video Killed The Radio Star. ;) I shot a shitload of music videos before The Winter Of My Discontent. Most were atrociously poorly designed, some were outright dangerous. A few were elegantly fun. Fascinating way to pay the mortgage, shooting music videos. Let's not let this thread degrade, it's a great treat to see this stuff via these links. Kudos to those linking stuff through. Peter Abraham New York
Premium Members JamesSainthill Posted August 2, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 2, 2006 Hey Guys (and Gals), I worked on a Music Video back in December that you might want to take a look at. Much Music (Canada) & MTV (the good 'ol US of A) wouldn't play it but MTV Europe loved it and it climed to the top of their charts. (It also got nominated by MTV Europe for best international music video of '06.) You can find it at ... www.deathfromabove1979.com/video/sexyresults.html ENJOY! James "the actress in the video is the director's girlfriend" Sainthill.

Premium Members David George Ellis Posted August 10, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 10, 2006 OK guys, Since Mr. Sainthill opened the floodgates, I would like to add one of my favorite videos I operated on utilizing a Steadicam TM. Mind you, hide the kids and don't tell the misses "Honey, check this out" until you view it first. I'm not saying there's nudity (everything is blurred), but it is kinda racy. Definitely one of my most "unique" experiences. Enjoy!!!! Click here to see Mobb Deep Feat. 50 Cent "The Infamous" On a side note, I wish y'all could have seen what happened that wasn't in this video... Oh man, the things I saw... You wouldn't believe me. Just imagine, 200 strippers and 100 DJs in 50's big F'ing house!!! The song should be called "THE DEBAUCHERY"

Premium Members Kareem La Vaullee Posted February 4, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 4, 2008 One the best Music Video ever was done by Valentin Monge, I can't find it online for the moment, it's for an Artist named SinclairMaybe I can ask to Valentin if he's got a copy. His work is truly amazing, you can't run faster than him and he shows that in the Video, in ultra-narrow corridors and down stairs. I finally did find that video and asked to Afton to kindly put it in his great SteadiShots website, you can watch it now following this link. I spoke to Valentin and told him about Afton's website and that that music video he did is now available there, I also asked for some more details about the shooting so he told me that the camera speed was 21 frames per second to add a little more speed, the shooting lasted two days and each portions of the video was entirely done in two ways, first preceding in Don Juan the singer running, then following the singer running, he also told me that it was one of the most physically challenging shooting he did to date. Camera and Rig details are already on the shot's page. Let us hear your comments, I hope that Valentin is going to find the time to come here. It's not a music video but a live performance. Dave Eastwood shot Marc Anthony at Madison Square Gardens a few years ago for a HBO special. He started at the back up by the roof and they flew him down to the stage and he stepped off and shot the whole song by himself. The director had all the other cameras shooting Dave while he did this. I wish that I could see that video. Then at the end of the song they flew him back up and out again. I saw it once and it was pretty awesome considering it was at a live event and he couldn't go back to one if he screwed up. Jon Myers I also did some searching to find this amazing video and here it is. (I suggest that you mute your computer, you are warned...) Cheers. K. Adam Vesely
I know this thread is fairly dead, but I had to post this video of the song "Something Changed" by Pulp. I have a music video coming up and this is just what I was looking for. Doesn't hurt that I love Pulp!
Andy G.
Hi guys, let me know what you think about my "one take" music videos here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNhumsdp-pY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pOGn1oRgjY This was their first video making that band very popular here in Italy, so it was a very low budget video (about 7.500 euro!), and was produced in 6 hours, after a couple of rehersal (the first one with a JR), and then 3 takes for the "blond girl" version and just 1 for the "dark girl" version (the real subject of the song!). I have shooted them on S16 with an Arri SR evolution and an Angeniuex 7-81 zoom lens, remotely operated by my hand through an homemade film servo zoom kit with a control lever fixed on the gimble of mine PRO sled. Also, at that time was so popular here, that succesively, the same production company (following the request of a new incoming artist), asked to me to shoot it again!...I mean for another artist! here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgjIjHU4rHA This last version was shooted on video with a DV cam camcorder...so still low budget, but very low! :o

Premium Members Erik Brul Posted December 26, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 26, 2008 Hey Andy, Really nice work. I like all three of them. The last one was when looking at composition and handling of the rig for me the best.. but at slower pace. I like the fact you still see the girl at front but at a long distance.. It's another approach but working out nice. In the first 2 video's of the 2 girls, i really like the fast pace you have there and.. almost a bump with the first girl  .. Good work ! Best, Erik Thanks Erik for your nice post  ... Yes, we almost crashed in the "dark girl version"... The biggest problem for me was controlling the moves of those girls, especially the dark one, she was the real girl of the story (Giulia, the ex-girlfriend of the singer!), enough far from a real actress, but was so funny that idea to shoot a double version with her too, that we did it! Not easy to convince someone like those girls (the blonde girl was just at the beginning of her carrer as model/actress) to "feel" (and "follow"!) the camera...Probably with some other take on more we could reach better resutls, at least because we got totally exhaust after so much long runs! Unfortunately, I don't have any making off about that day, I just remember that an MTV Italy crew was shooting around us...But i have no hope to recover that report, especially because was made it 4 years ago. But you're right about the fast pace, at least is almost the only thing that I still remember about that day...To be honest, together with the big bobs of the blond girl! ;) I made another similar video, still some years ago, it was a steady shot edited in 4 takes...something like the Spice's video "Wanna be", but with almost no-budget, as clearly visible (!) -as usually unfortunately is, talking about music videos production here, in Italy....The director added some fx & graphic work to made it more interesting... I only remember about it, that those guys (a boyband) were very precise to move inside the stand still frame during the final of the clip, it was the first and only take we shoot, at least about that part. Best to you, Andy
