Hello fellow operators..!

I have only 2 words for you: Buy "the boxx" ( I guess that was 3 really... :-)

After hearing rumours about the system her on the forum, I contacted the company

and arranged a demo in London. I went over, meet Scott ( 33% of the company )

ran around for a few minutes and was impressed.

I got my own system 2 weeks ago, and went straight on to a feature that has turned out

to be 100% steadicam.

Here is my experience so far.....

I f...... love it. ( sorry about the dirty dots )

After 2 weeks of shooting we have had 1(!) drop-out where the picture froze...

( I went into a house, 2 floors up, and into a flat........)

There will be no going back for me, ever again.

the thrill of not having the director go " looked fine, but I lost the picture half-way through the shot.."

ever again, it worth the price... ( which by the way isn´t so bad compaired to other systems..)

I was a bit worried about the 12frame delay, and read alot of posts in here stating that this was a big isssue..

But to any worried "hmm im also thinking about gettting that system"- operators I can only say, don´t

worry.. its not a problem.

I got a shark from Behringer.com that delays the listening for the director and script girl.

And after working for about a day, the director had "synched" with the delay. And had no problems

cueing actors and extras.

Anyone interested in a more detailed description or with other general questions, is welcome

to contact me.

Best regards

Hey guys, I moved this thread from "General Discussion" to here for obvious reasons.

Please be aware that there is another thread about Wi-Fi transmitters (actually there were two threads which I just merged to one), but that strand reviews several makes and models and not just "The Boxx," which is why I left this subject intact.

For your viewing pleasure though, here is a link to that thread:

Okay, back to the "Boxx."

I still think a 12 frame delay is a deal-breaker for all the reasons I talk about in my post in the other thread.

Cheers,

Sorry for the pacement of my post... nice to see that there is a quick responstime in here.. :-)

about the delay.....?

I read your post, and im not sure... have you tried the system...?

I can only speak from personal experience, and they are only good.

as I said, The director was told about the 12frame delay, we discussed it, and started working...

And it works like a charm...

after one rehearsal you know the "rythm" of the scene, and its easy to cue actors 12 frames in advanced..

( especially if you have a videolink that accually enables the director to see what is going on... ;-)

I have no doubt that this type of system will be the standard in a few years.

I am the proud owner of a Modulus 3000 and a very nice 2.4ghz system from Marell ( UK )

But im selling my modulus asap.

But will be keeping my Marell system for when sync is needed

( 2 cameras, live broadcast...ect )

Best regards

Flemming,

Glad it is working for you. And, yes, I agree that Wi-Fi is the wave of the future, but I'm not interested until the frame delay is at 2 frames or so with a price tag of under $4K (systems like this exist, but they are around $70K). Why? Same reasons I mentioned before - director walking next to us with watchmen because he/she does not like being at video village. Boom mic in the shot, etc. True, these situations don't always apply, but [for now] I'd rather stick to a really good diversity tuner and a Canatrans. Just me.

Peace.

It is on the way. Hang on until NAB next year. I've seen prototype. All I can say under NDA.

Can anyone provide a link to where I can find the specs of this system. All I can find is reference to the computer and video card they offer, nothing on the Wi-Fi video.

Thanks!

Just to be clear, when I noted I was under an NDA, it was for a different manufacturer not Boxx. There are a number of things afoot.

COOL! It looks like we're ALL working on it!

Best of luck and may the best product (especially if it is made by me) win!

:)

I've been in touch with Scott this week and am looking at this system at the moment. Are there any more owners of this system out there who can talk about their experiences with it?

The 12 frame delay thing is obviously an issue, like Flemming I already own a nice 2.4Ghz analogue kit (Teletest), but offering microwave links to clients may be of use to the live-to-air jobs, or big screen events etc. Easy enough and cheap enough to buy the Behringer, cheap enough too...

I think I'm correct in the assumption that if audio is sent through the camera to the Boxx, then it is in sync with the video (albeit 12 frames delay), but if the audio is from an external source, the Behringer unit is required.

I'm happy with the reliability of my current system, I have a nice high gain omni directional antenna, and LCD with built in receiver as well as the regular transmitter/receiver, but having a reliable, broadcastable / stable microwave link may be of use to clients and open up some new possibilities...

Does anyone have any more experience of using the Boxx out there in the field?

Thanks

Jason
