Guys, guys, guys....

Looks like a good one! Chance of making it is almost nil at this point though. Lots of work and no plane ticket yet (didn't bother buying with work the way it is and they seem to be going up by the day).

David, I trust you'll represent the New York lushes with the attitude and style I've come to know so well.

Oh well, next year...

I will be there too. Just keep that drunk Bartell away from my scotch.

Ron

Don't worry, Ron, I try to avoid beverages that come from bottles with blank white labels and the contents, i.e. "SCOTCH" printed in large, black, block letters.

Nothin' but the best Costco store brand for me....

Jim "FUNNY NICKNAME" Bartell

P.S. I hear Trinity Fillsen is holdin'

Therefore, again, due to space availability we are asking that ONLY the following attend:

1. Experienced full-time working steadicam operators

2. Manufacturers of steadicam gear or parts for use with the steadicam

Please do not invite your assistants, friends, and other crew members you see at Cinegear to Gladstones.

We just don't have the room for a hundred people to show up.

We're really sorry to have to say this, but again, if you are an aspiring operator (but currently working as an assistant, grip, electric, boom operator, PA, etc) or have recently bought a rig but still don't work as a full time steadicam operator, we ask that you meet and mingle with all the

other operators AT Cinegear.

As I was working, this was brought to my attention...

Very disappointing, to say the least!

Yes I have issues when a newer operator with a JR is telling off a 20 year feature veteran... and let's him forget the link to this website... or claiming to be something they are not... but...

Everybody is complaining how new operators are degrading the rates, that there are to many new guys, non camera department, non Camera operator... wannabe operators, etc. But you have to start somewhere! if somebody is serious about his craft and tries to advance, who are we to tell him his not good enough to sit at the same table with us? Or in this case you guys.

I know a couple of "professional Operators" that I would not sit with at a table... money important, cutthroat, fu%# everybody but me "Experienced full-time working steadicam operators".

Instead of teaching them and make them friends you are creating a 2 class structure that will take your job without hesitation. So you are creating enemies and play them into the hands of Producers.

I believe that people that know and respect each other are less likely to steal a job, or fu%# you over. (Again respect is earned not given, but how when you already think of "them" as a second class.)

How will we be able to build a front and leverage against the Producers?

Michael, you were in there shoes only a bit over 6 years ago... where would you be today without a helping hand?

So if there is not enough space, maybe the location should be reevaluated.

I'm still learning and I wouldn't call my self an expert just yet... so I'm not invited either?

My percentage just dropped to 10%, don't make it 0%.

Fly safe, but don't fly to high Icarus...

I have to agree with Erwin. These post cinegear get togethers have always been for everyone who is passionate about steadicam...a place to learn, chat, BS, and have a pint. The newer guys never got in the way of "old timers" :D talking, They always seemed to do a lot of listening...and learning. It seems to me that Gladstones patio is a lot bigger than Dalt's ever was and we never had a problem there.

Hello all, over the past couple days after talking to David Grove, Dan Kneece and

my wife, we decided we need to have some limits on how many people come.

Gladstones of course, would like to know for staffing concerns.

These Steadicam Operators get togethers started back in 2000 (if I remember correctly)

with just a handful of us operators, I think it was about 8-10 of us, since then it has grown to become huge amounts of people including assistants, grips, electrics, newbies, and aspiring operators as well.

But sadly due to limited space and accomodations at the restaurant, we need to get control of

how many and who come. These get togethers and meetings are intended to get STEADICAM OPERATORS and manufacturers together from time to time so we can talk and enjoy each others company since we rarely get to work or see each other.

Therefore, again, due to space availability we are asking that ONLY the following attend:

1. Experienced full-time working steadicam operators

2. Manufacturers of steadicam gear or parts for use with the steadicam

Please do not invite your assistants, friends, and other crew members you see at Cinegear to Gladstones.

other operators AT Cinegear.

Again, we're all really sorry about that, maybe the aspiring, wannabe, and newbie operator crowd

can organize another post-Cinegear get together at another facility.

Thanks for understanding. Please don't flame me for this, several people consulted and we all agreed

and I'm trying to be as diplomatic about it as possible.

For a more accurate head count to give the restaurant and to have a list of names as to who is

coming to Gladstone's and meets the above 2 criteria, please RSVP here so I can give Gladstone's (my wife)

a more accurate number of how many to expect.

If you are unsure if you'll be able to make it, give us a % of the chance you'll be there.

Thanks, I'll start below.

Michael Stumpf

I'll be attending

Are you serious?

In that case I'm inviting Trinity Fillsen! I need to buy some meds.

I should apologize to everyone for originally posting the invitation on this open public forum. sorry

I thought the last gathering at Dalts got a little crowded.. as more and more folks are subscribing to this forum and the more folks are showing at these events. It's GREAT that there is SO much interest in Steadicam but logistically...eh... it's getting tough..

I like small intimate gatherings like we used to have like Tin Horn flats remember those good old days?

I'm not sure what to do here.

Maybe we can all meet at Cinegear instead! DUH!

Thats where we are going to be anyway? Perhaps we can meet at the Tiffen Booth or over at GPI or... AR booth or wherever.. on Saturday at a particular time.

Maybe we could have a super huge picnic there on a nice grassy area..(I'm serious here) Then we wouldn?t have to worry about over crowding and who RSVP?d and Mikes wife doesn?t have to worry about staffing.

What do you guys think?

"The Times they are a chaning"

who sang that song?

Don't apologize, it should be an open invitation to ALL ops! Erwin is right this whole thing is heading in a terrible "elitist" direction. I had a great time last year meeting everybody that was "new" to me. I was hoping to meet some "new" friends this year. I have been operating for over eight years and just learned something "new" at the last workshop, does that mean I can't come to Gladstones? This is a f***ing joke!

It seems to me that we should be able to find a place to get together after the Expo. I will staffing the Tiffen Booth, so I won't be able to make the picnic. I am sure Jerry, Garrett, Frank and Kyle will be pretty busy during as well. Although I shouldn't speak for them. Maybe we can find a place that doesn't need reservations??? Last year was a bit crowded but I thought it was great moving from table to table and group to group and just chatting and getting my drink on. I don't know this whole thing has kind of gotten a little sour, no?
