SmartCAM SM7-3K-Z

Hello lovely people,

I am a quite new into the steadicam operating and I want to upgrade my current setup from time to time and piece by piece. Currently I am looking into a new and brighter monitor for the next upgrade.

Does anybody had the chance to get their hands on this modded SWIT monitor from SmartSystem (SmartCAM SM7-3K-Z)? I am using their arm and I am very happy with that. I would like to know if it would be a reasonable purchase with the integrated ZEN system or if I should look into other monitors like the SmallHD 703 or best a Transvideo Monitor (which I think is a bit too pricey for my point of career).

Maybe someone has some good advice or hands on experience with this monitor. Looking forward to hear from you guys.

Until then happy shooting.

Cheers

Bastian

Hello Luccio,

I did not buy the monitor yet because I wait for the new prototype model, they are currently working on. It should be released any time soon, probably in September. I could take a look on that at the Cine Expo in Munich this year.

The new monitor is built entirely Inhouse, so they have full control over the software as well. If you have any tools or features you would like as an operator, you can talk with them and they don't have to ask SWIT because of license stuff and so on. So more freedom for all of us I guess...

Also, the monitor has a good weight (1.4kg I think) and with slightly more than 3000nits it is super bright, great viewing angle (feels like 180° degrees). It will have touchscreen control as well as buttons. The ZEN will probably be an extra tool this time which can be integrated with software and will be mounted on the sled itself, not onto the monitor. Which makes it more accurate. I don't know though, how the prototyping is going in this direction. So don't take my words as final, let's wait for the final announcement. The upgradeable ZEN means, that there will be just one monitor in the future, price will be between the two current monitors. I heard something around 2.5k, but as I said, no final wording. Just what I heard at the Cine Expo :)

I will definitely wait for this monitor and I am totally looking forward to this.

I hope this helps a bit. The guys from SmartSystem are super helpful and you can ask them all the questions about the monitor. I guess they can give you the latest and most precise news :)

Cheers and all the best

Bastian
