Delfino Ramirez Jr
Hello Everyone, I will have the funding to get myself a Steadicam rig soon. I know the system that I am going to get if I am buying new. But, have seen some used systems on the market that could give me more options. I will, of course, make a trip to test drive the used system and would like some advise what to check for as I essentially 'kick the tires'. Premium Members Afton Grant Posted September 8, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 8, 2006 Hi Del, I asked almost exactly the same question a while ago when I was looking for a used rig. Peter Abraham gave me a very nice response. The post can be read here: http://www.steadicamforum.com/forums/index...?showtopic=2059 Best of luck! Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted September 17, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 Murthy, Forgive the confusion. The proper name format is "First Name" (please capitalize the first letter) then a space [blank character] followed by your "last name" (proper name - again, capitalize the first character). To answer your question, it depends. It can be cost effective to buy parts from various places, but so can purchasing an entire package at once. Please look through the archives as I'm sure this has ben discussed. Biggest advantage I can see for buying items separately is that you have more control over the quality and selection. When you buy an entire package from someone (used), it may come with some items that are not your preferred model, etc. The advantage to this is "one stop" shopping. Premium Members DavidWest Posted September 17, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 17, 2006 if you purchase seperately you will probably not save much money.... ie- one of these and one of those can take months (or years in my case) to put together.... if you buy it all at once you can begin to practice and also start making money sooner... so even though a greater expense, if you can afford it i would buy a whole package... this goes for almost any business.. (mixing and maching of brands is what lots of folks seem to be doing, ie a gpi-pro arm, rear mount vest, xcs-inc sled..... ) all i am trying to say is try to buy the best that you can afford as quickly as possible so that you can put it all together and use it... just my 2cents worth.... (and remember, advice is worth what you pay for it....) david
Nelson Rocha
hello everybody, my name is Nelson, and i´m thinking to buy a stedicam. i sarting with a small company, photography, video, and design, and i´ve read some about steadicam, and also i´ve seen some videos about how to use it. I want it to use for all kind off videos, sport events, etc, i want to create this concept here in portugal, this equipment is just used in advertising and in films. i think that is good market star to work with this, because is great what we can do wit steadicam. I want to spend about $5000 and i select this 3 options, that i think the most interesting GPI PRO for $5000 http://www.artemis-hd.com/produkte/artemis...uebersicht.html for 8500? and this http://www.bassonsteady.com.ar/shop/productos.asp?id=1 for $4.633 As i haven´t experince, and cant see the big diferences in this steadicam, i need help. Off couse that for me, i bougth the artemis dv, but is there realy big diferences in operations between them?? I have a important question to make, that is, how many hours can i operate the stedicam, somenone said me that is necessary to have a great body to suport for some hours the steadicam. Many thanks Nelson Rocha

Premium Members Sydney Seeber Posted September 18, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 18, 2006 From someone who's also new at this, and has recently purchased a complete rig, just one word of caution: Be careful when mixing components... I bought an MK-V modular system, and it has performed well in a wide variety of conditions, but I thought that I would save money and purchased a Glidecam Gold vest, which was not capable of the same weight conditions that the sled and arm were... Consequently, by my third shoot, I had done 3 major repairs on it... I had to replace several flimsy aluminum rivets that snapped under relatively heavy loads... I had to learn a little about TIG welding, which saved me in the short run, but I eventually had to buy another vest... I couldn't even bother to sell the Glidecam vest, I didn't want to pawn it off on someone when it had so many problems... So, it was a waste of money... I saved the socket block and put it to other uses, but that's about it. So, just make sure you do your research!
