Difference between M-1 Gimbal and M-2 Gimbal

What is the difference between M-1 and M-2 Gimbal? 

I'm planning to get Volt 2 where Tiffen is offering M-2 Gimbal Volt package where they are only offering M-2 Gimbal not M-1.

I was wondering if there would be a difference between getting a M-1or M-2 Gimbal.

The M2 gimbal is overall a nice upgrade from the M1, but mechanically they function basically the same. The biggest upgrade is that with the Volt on the M1 gimbal, the pan encoder is on the outside of the gimbal and is easy to damage, whereas on the M2 gimbal the encoder ring is internal and the gimbal can therefore get closer to the top stage of the rig and it is a lot less likely to get damaged. Apart from that, they have the same pan bearing, a similar yoke design, and the same handle, though again with the M2 there are small changes like the arm post diameter being adjustable via sleeves from the factory, whereas the M1 handle required changing out the entire handle to swap between arm post sizes.
