Hi Jeff

How are you?

In answer to your 3 questions:

The unit is has standard SDI at the moment and we are working on the HD/SDI side of things at the moment - as you would expect - it is modular so you can have different modules on the back - one of these will be the HD/SDI.

2, At the moment the prototpyes are switchable, they will be auto switching on the production model (NTSC & PAL)

3, Yes I can arrange after Cinegear to ship one to you for testing.

4, the first 50 are £ 3,250 or $ 5,785.

If you would like any more info please email me.

Hope this helps

All the best

at a grand more than the hummingbird un-modified it does represent good value..... your paying about that for the frameline generator on its own let alone the other mods and proper casing

does it provide a video through? bnc out or something? i like to put my transmitter on the back of my monitor avoiding topstage clutter

Hi Thomas - how are you, glad you are doing well.

Yes it does have video through and a PRO compatable 0B 4 pin lemo (like on the J-Box) for 12v and video out - for a transmitter or receiver (if useing it the other way around)

Also we have built in Tally lights - I forgot to mention...

Hope this helps

All the best

Howard;

As you know, I have spent a little time with the original Hummingbird, so I am familiar with the product.

1)Specifically, what are the differences between yours and the Imp unmodified one?

2)Also if someone already owns a frame line generator, can you make the modified monitor without one? And if so, what is the cost?

3)Finally what is the warranty on the monitor and to whom do you send the monitor for repair, Imp or will MK-V be responsible for repairs?

I won't be around for Cinegear, but would love to see the two Hummingbirds in NYC so that some of us can do a side by side and decide which one would work better for the price.

One thing I will say about the monitor, for the price (the one without the FLG) is a pretty good deal, and as I said before, a big step up from the Transvideo era of LCD monitors.

Hi Jamie

How are you?

In answer to your questions:

1. It differs by being in a balanced smaller milled encloser designed specificly for 'Steadicam' work, it is availble in either PRO or CP mount. The inputs/outs are all PRO compatible, The electronics/software is different as the MK-V/Hummingbird does not have a menu system, we have knobs and buttons. The other difference is the features, we have built in Famelines/centre cross and boarder, zoom modes, flips. it also has built in heaters so you can work below -10. And tally lights

2. Sorry it would be the same price as it is built into the main board, and they are so good, why add another box? (the difference in price is probably what you would get for you FLB on ebay?)

3. The warranty is the standard IMP and MK-V 12 months parts and labour - any units to have a problem (hopefully none as they are very robust) would be returned directly to IMP.

I will arrange to get one to you all in NY after Cinegear, where would be the best place to ship to? please let me know.

Also in reponse to Ikarman

The tally light is acitvated by the MK-V Video J-Box, we are working on the new version of this system so it will be more compatable with other products.

The weight - is around 1 kilo or 2.2 pounds - around the same weight as a standard hummingbird. (to be confirmed)

I hope this helps

All the best

Have you also changed the glass in front? I tested a stock Hummingbird last week and although impressed on many levels (farily good brightness, good contrast, viewing angle similar to HD Ultrabrite), a direct reflection from the sun was like looking into a mirror, very painful, potentially dangerous.

Hi Jerry

How are you?

All I can say is when we tested it and showed at NAB this year outside in the midday sun, we had no problems and a stunning picture all the time. We encouraged ops to try and loose the picture outside, most of the responses I can not print! but they were all very possitive.

You are very welcome to come to our both at Cinegear and try one for your self, it will be nice to see you, will you be on the Tiffen stand again this year?

Looking forward to seeing you

All the best

I'm a die-hard Green screen guy, But after seeing Howards Monitor at NAB all I have to say is WOW. That monitor rocks. Much better then anything to come along before it.

Take a look at it at Cinegear you will be impressed.

Just yesterday I met Howard and Eric Fletcher down at Keslow Camera and tried their new gadgets including the Alien Revolution. After about ten minutes I made up my mind to buy the new gimbal, the four stage post and the Hummingbird monitor. Howard has, in my humble opinion, really has created a rig that combines quality with reliability. His rig feels stong and rigid when you lock off and agile when on the go.

The Humminbird monitor is truly fantastic and very much worth a look for anyone who is still reluctant in giving up their CRT or upgrading their LCD. I took the Hummingbird outside and it really was great at handling a bright day but it seems to me that everyone focuses so much more on a monitor that functions well in bright sunlight and too little on one that preforms in low light situations. The Hummingbird is great at both. I gave up my CRT two years ago on the West Wing because we don't leave the stage very often and I was tired of flying through batteries. I opted for two different Transvideo Monitors at half teh price of my CRT. I got the battery life that pleased me and the color picture that I love having but then there is that angle of view thing that you deal with every now and then. There is not a monitor out there that doesn't have some limitation so the debate of CRT vs. LCD can go on and on but again, in my humble opinion, the Hummingbird is the best I've seen so far weighing all the qualities that I value most.

Now, The Alien Revolution...

If you get the chance, try it. The few of us that tried it yesterday were a bit awed by it. There is a learning curve on it but once you get it, wow. As we all took turns trying it like kids in line at a water slide my mind was racing through dozens of applications for its use. Going from Hi to Lo mode in shot is the tip of the iceberg and I dont think that that is the best part. Imagine never having to think about you horizon again. Anyway I could go on but this is Eric Fletchers baby and maybe he is right to keep it low profile until he feels its completely ready. I might start saving my pennies now...
