Premium Members Charles Papert Posted March 18, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 18, 2004 Hello gang, I am trying to help out someone who is buying a DV-sized rig; they were all set to buy a C-stand and I naturally suggested they look for a rolling stand instead. Outside of the American stand, which runs around $400 with the wheels (they are in Canada so no luck with the LA pickup discount), does anyone know of a cheaper alternative that probably doesn't have to be so heavy-duty due to lesser sled weight? You Canadian chaps, are there any stands made up there that fit the bill? Let's not delve into Magliner and cart-type stands, remember we are looking for economic competitors to c-stands. Thanks, Chas
Mitch Gross
Does Mole still make the old 750 roller stand? The legs are perpendicular to the stand and hinge at the base to fold in. Turn it over to lock or unlock them. Not as stable as a stand with triangulating legs, but should do the trick for a lightweight rig. If it's really light, perhaps a Lowel Senior stand is all that is necessary. That's really cheap.
Mitch Gross
Just checked on those. The mole stand is still expensive, around $275. Some may find it better than the regular stands they use but that is perhaps another discussion. http://extranet.mole.com/public/index.cgi?...40-1943&id=8595 But your friend could likely get away with the Lowel KS stand ($80) with LC casters ($34). Cheapest way to go and stay mobile. Good for lightweight use only.
