It is self-powered and bright enough to be seen clearly outside. I've sold about 20 of the original run of 40. The power source runs for close to a year, if the rig is used 6-8 hours a day, 5 days a week for 50 weeks. Simple and elegant, and cheap !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D For $ 100.00 USD, I will ship it to you. David, it's basically the same design as the one described by Jerry Holway in the Steadicam Letter, lo those many years ago ( although, someone else turned me on to the diagram at the Atlanta Olympics ). This one's fairly hardy, and I found Ultra Bright LED's to use......... Peter I found my old tally light! It's literally made out of a match box! and notice all the cables.. ug... As I recall it took me several hours to put this thing together. It was fun?? to build this but you couldn't pay me enough to try and build another one. Kudos to Peter for making more than one!!! ($100 is a steal!) When the photocells are exposed to the tally light, it triggers the leds to light up. On my set up, One of the lights comes on and stays on until the tally goes off and the other blinks to "get your attention." I tried to use it once a couple of years ago just as an indicator that the camera was rolling (non-live show) but it was a bright day out and I didn't have any sticky tape with me to keep the light from hitting the cells. I decided not to use it. That's just my set up though. It looks like Peters would work much better. At that price you can not beat it, and it is no joke how bright that light really is. When i am shooting in a studio i put tape over the light so it is not so bright. They run off of standard CP-16 batteries. :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: God. I slay me sometimes. It runs off of a 9vdc transistor, that is inside the black box you see in the provided photo. I've seen such rigs, they are a solid idea. However, the whole idea here with the tally light I'm making is that it's a good basic very very bright tally light, that just about any Operator can afford. Someone sent me a link to a tally light that's being made. It's splendidly beautiful. Lemo connectors, an aluminum anodized box, 4 LED's, etc. It's gorgeous. It's also a small fortune. From the word go, my goal was for ANY Op, at ANY stage in their career to be able to buy this thing and toss it in the kit and have it, and have it be inexpensive. I don't plan to change the design in any way. I do have one or two small adjustments to make, but basically the item will be as you see in the photos posted above. Those customers interested in doing custom things to it, right on !!!! I'll be glad to do extra wiring harnesses and whatnot for you on a project by project basis. The parts are almost all in for the next batch. I'll be ready to ship by April 1, all things being equal in my life. A significant design change. Now, the Circuit/Battery box will be roughly 6 inches from the Optical Sensor, and the Tally L.E.D. will be at the end of a thin 6 foot cable. Easier to move around that way. I have owned and USED my PeterTally for over a year now and I love it! Simple enough and definately BRIGHT enough; I too use some ND gel over mine while on INT shoots. Can't say enough good things about it. I am still running on the OEM battery! Sure, folks could add $400 worth of Lemo connectors and run them wires inside the post, but for US.10, I used velcro and my PT box lives underneath my Preston MDR so I see the light as I look past the MDR towards my monitor; I see the light, but don't have to look away from the monior.
