---sputter sputter---

Uh............sure. It costs a hundred dollars.

:P

And, Brant, you of all people should remember very well why this is called the Zalex Tally Light.

Kenn gets his standard 70% for the right to use his son's name as a part of the branding. ( opposed to Branting.....heh ). Where is your Helga, anyway?

Peter--

Of course I remember why Zalex is the name.

It does tend to sound much more impressive and confident that the Helga Helper HotLight!

But then, my Helga has gone the way of my original Model 2 sled---On down the road!

Where is YOUR Helga? And what happened to those great bird masks which you and Kenn wore for the closing ceremony?

That would be something for the Steadicam Museum Exhibit!

Best,

Brant

Actually a good question, and for once I'll set the wisecracking aside.

When you are doing any kind of live t.v. show that involves more cameras that just the one on the Steadicam, you are a part of a larger array of choices. When the Director says, " Ready 4, Take 4 ! " there is that split second during which time the Technical Director ( T.D. ) hears, and then hits the Camera 4 button.

The Tally light on your camera triggers ONLY when you are on line. So, you know second to second when your camera is "on air" or " off air". Additionally ( and this is a very lovely thing ), when your camera is dissolved to another one, the tally light on your camera fades out ( on newer bodies, anyway ) - it doesn't just cut out. By using a remote that is an optical sensor, your remote tally light also fades out, as the intensity of the camera's tally fades out.

When timing a move, or a slow pan off as your camera dissolves to the next tone, this is vital information. I will say, that this Tally Light is useful as hell but no replacement for a Program Monitor mounted next to your Steadicam monitor. Most Ops who specialize in live events fly a second monitor- typically an LCD- to use as Program.

Peter

and those who don't specialize in live events (those who do it once a year like I seem to be doing) Use a 3" color TV and just tune in.

There is a slight delay so you have to listen when they come to you. But you at least know that you are on and you know when they are off your camera.

Works for me. (for now)

BTW: do you offer trade-ins Peter? I know you were impressed with my crazy wiring and you can't beat the match stick box. It's a classic!

(I'm kidding of course)
