That sounds like a very expensive dream rig for that weight range, I would love to fly that!

It is more likely to found out if the connector of the arm fit's the gimbal of the MK-V.

Don't know because some parts of the Flyer like the Socket Block on the Vest of the Flyer is not standard fitting.

What i do know is that the Sled of the Sachtler dv-pro rig do fit the Flyer arm. This way you can upgrade your flyer system with a 24 volt sled and some extra settings on the sled for faster dynamic balance for example..

Thanks for weighing in fellas.

Erik, thanks for pointing out some potential problems. I wasn't thinking about the arm post. I know they run in different lengths, but I need to check on the diameter.

Dave

Yep Dave, the diameter indeed !..

Maybe you should sent a email to Howard or Anthony from MK-V..

They would be pleased to answer all your questions.

I was flying that package alot at IBC. Thought it was a great setup.

Howard had modified the Flyer arm 1 in its post diameter and 2 he had put a reel socket block on it, so we could use it with any standard vest and or hardmount.

Was an interesting experience flying this setup with a Klassen vest.

Made it an even more expensive package.

Check it out here.

The arm post modification isn't very hard at all. Just buy 2 bronze bushings, one with 3/8" ID, 1/2" OD, and one with 1/2" ID, 5/8" OD, and use some Red Loctite to put them together. Pop it onto the Flyer's arm post, and you can put any sled with a 5/8" arm post hole on it.

As for the socket block, yeah, you probably would have to just properly change it out. I wonder if the rod ends would line up, or if Howard had to swap them out.

Certainly is a nice setup for this weight range. At first it seems expensive but remember your costs over time as you start to use bigger camera s. This lite sled could carry anything given the right batteries at the bottom. So you get a 35mm shoot on an aaton... just get a bigger arm and use the onboard.

I can t remember but maybe it can even do 24v! but not sure.... In that case carry a 535B or moviecam compact.

you can also upgrade a lite bit by bit to a fully fledged AR/nexus

James, that pic is inspiring! I know the dudes from Redrock Micro and with your permission, I'd love to forward them that picture.

Everybody else, thanks for the tips and info. With a little bit of ghetto-izing, I could get this thing up and running soon enough. The flyer has been great to learn on, but alas it is time to go a little chunkier.

I'll keep the flyer arm and vest (and monitor) for now and get around to a G-50, a comfy, quiet vest, and some other sort of monitor down the road.

Prior to buying my MK-V Nexus I was using a Flyer arm and post with a Klassen vest, Howard at MK-V made me a socket block adapter so the arm would fit the Klassen.

It was a great set-up for the HDV type cameras, I sold it back to them when I upgraded my kit so they may still have it.

Hi

Yes we have the flyer socket block adaptors in stock at MK-V. You could fly all day using a flyer and a Backmount vest. It would also let you use any normal front mount vest of course. So you would have all the benefits of ratchet buckles etc. We also have the arm post adaptor too made out of high grade alluminum as personally I would tust an expensive sled and camera on a bit of tube glued together! or any sled and camera for that, all for the sake of saving a couple of bucks!!!!

Regards the Lite sled it is 12/24v switchable and also has HDSDI down the post it will fly everything from a lightweight DV cam upto IMAX..... Not on a flyer arm though!

Regards

Ant

This post reminds me of when I had the opportunity to fly this setup at the Production Show here - it's astonishing how you almost literally don't know it's there - MK-V Lite with Flyer arm and a Klassen. Even standing still in a lock-off shooting position is no problem. You could operate for quite some time without docking.
