Archos not detecting video?

Recommended Posts

I have a archos 500 with the firm ware that came with the archos (1.0.54) (wmdrmpd 9.0) I had a cable made to work with my Jerry Hill battery box when i plug the archos in it will not detect video. The cable IS wired correctly. I thought it might be the archos itself taking a dive but i plugged it into the hub I have connected to my TV and it does detect video. I then disconnnected the hub from the tv and and connected it to my video out on my rig and it still didnt work. I was advised to look into the menu to make sure the video parameters were set on auto and it is, i also set it to composite to see if that would work and it didnt.

Any advise?

Thanks in advance

Hi Justin,

I experienced the same thing when flying a very old SR2 with no built-in video tap. I had to use an external, bolt-on video tap which I believe put out a weaker video signal that the Archos simply would not detect. Alec explained it somewhat for me and perhaps he can repeat it here. Anyway, it seems that the Archos is a bit picky about the video signal and if the signal is not what it wants, it won't allow it.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you, but I did want to let you know you're not alone.

Best of luck.

Thanks soo much, that just might be the problem. I will go to a camera house and see if a 435 will work.

What rig? you might want to check monitor termination. If that doesn't work you might want to go with a Video DA. Check out the write-up I did a few months ago. The Write up is here

I know mine (400 series)will not detect a B&W signal if "source" is set to "automatic"; it has to be set to "B&W" I assume you tried scrolling through the different input options?

Hmmmmm..... I wonder if that was the problem I was having. I'll definitely try that next time I'm in that situation. Thanks for the tip, Lawrence!

Best Regards,

Justin,

A few thoughts. Check the obvious again. The Jerry Rig has a built in VDA and that 6 pin Lemo on the battery housing has dedicated pins for video IN & OUT. I have mine wired so that the playback goes to channel 2 on my TB-6 (I use a Supacam for DVR).

What Afton is referring to is a video source with a weak signal (less than 1V peak to peak). I used to own a little Sony tuner designed for camcorders and whenever coupled with my eyepiece tap (the one Afton was using recently) the image would scroll. Some monitors hated this weak signal and opted to show no picture (blue) instead of a bad picture. Not much fun. Now I use a different tuner (as well as a different transmitter) and thankfully haven't used the eyepiece tap in eons. The point being, could your Archos be getting a signal but not liking the video level?

Alec,

My Jerry rig actually has a 5 pin out for the recorder port. I was fortunate enough to have Jim Bartell look at the 5 pin to make sure that it was recieving a signal and that the cable was wired correctly. I do think that the problem is the weak signal from the consumer camera that I was testing it with.

I will let you know when i get a chance to check it on a pro camera

Update! I brought my rig into Clairmont Camera and hooked up a 435. The Archos still wouldnt recognize the video signal. While I was trouble shooting the archos completly completely died on me. I sent the archos back for service, hopefully it was an internal problem with the archos.

Im waiting for the archos to return.
