Premium Members Garrett Brown Posted January 15, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 15, 2007 Teflon spray at either end of the G-50 spring (where the coil departs from the 'terminal') is the answer to any spring noise. A big powerful spring is a potential musical instrument if any rubbing occurs... it resonates and 'creaks' a bit with the slightest provocation... (that's why the Pro spring cannisters are teflon-lined.) I recommend a small dose of teflon if this problem ever occurs in any of the G-series arms. (and of course let us know.... we're looking at this issue and have seen three examples so far) best regards, Garrett Brown
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted January 16, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 16, 2007 The following diagram was requested by another Forum member in my original creaking arm thread. Jason Tan
The following diagram was requested by another Forum member in my original creaking arm thread. I am posting it here with permission of the Senior Engineer at Tiffen. My G50 is only 3 weeks old and has started creaking. The diagram seems to be missing now. Is there an update to this issue? Jason Tan
Problem solved. Silicone spray did the trick and I also put a few dabs of white lithium grease... smooth as silk again. :D

Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted March 2, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 2, 2009 I don't know why the original image I posted went away; maybe part of the Forum upgrade? Regardless, here it is again:

Premium Members Thomas K. Jensen Posted March 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 22, 2010 Hey Garrett and everyone else... I have had my Clipper w/G50 arm for about a month now, and it's spring is beginning to squeak when I'm booming down to the max. Now after doing some searching on this forum, I have read all the posts with G50/70 and Squeak in the topic. This lubrication that you mention, what kind do you recommend? I would be really sad, if I used some wrong stuff... Thanks
Premium Members Dan Madison Posted November 6, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 6, 2010 This is probably old news now, but I have found ACF-50 Rust Inhibitor & Anti-Corrosion Spray to be a great product for this issue. I had a similar squeak in my G50 arm (typically when I would boom down). A tiny bit of this in the right place took care of it. Found mine at: http://www.skygeek.com/10013.html *Thanks to Steve Fracol at a recent workshop for this recommendation!
