I'd like to see this new contraption. (as well as the Alien!) Perhaps you could show your new device to the Steadicam Guild the next time you are in LA?

Dude, you crossed WAY over the line with that low blow to Peter.

I never thought this would happen....

I just can't see the Steadicam Guild inviting you to a gathering to show your product, Steve. I'm sorry, but I cannot organize a gathering for this. You just can't insult our members and hold onto property that belongs to one of our members.

On the other hand, Jim, when you are done with your buzzzzz unit, let me know and I'll organize a gathering so you can give us a demo!

Jim is a prime example of someone who has great business sense. He is invited to show us his products because he not only has an outstanding product but more importantly, he has excellent customer service skills and he's lightning fast at repairs and mods! I'm proud to say that Jim is an associate member of the Steadicam Guild!

Steve,

A professional matter? Perhaps Peter, along with others are frustrated with you because it sounds like they think you HAVEN'T been professional?

Ask yourself this, why do you think people are so angry with you?

I think you should put yourself in the position of your customers and you'll find your answer.

Imagine taking your car in for repair. The mechanic requires full payment up front. You comply and nothing happens for a year and a half. You discover the mechanic has moved and taken your car with him. Unable to get any reply from him you publish a complaint in the local paper. The mechanic apologizes and says "I'll throw in a brake job for free to make it up to you". Great! But still nothing happens and you still don't get your car back. Someone else issues a rant (not you and without your knowledge) that angers the mechanic. He tells you "Now I'm not going to give you that brake job for free, and if you don't pay for it I'm not giving you your car back". Would you feel this was fair?

First, why are you punishing John for someone else's actions? You have basically stated that this is the case without explaining why.

Second, the only reason John agreed to the tube replacement was because you said you would do it for free. You are certainly entitled not to give away something. You are not entitled to tell someone you are giving them something and then change your mind charge them for it. If you do not wish to give John the tube, put his old tube back in and send him the sled. I'm sure he would be ecstatic.

Third, you state that "there is more going on with this than you have been aware of" and then go on for several paragraphs without saying one new thing except what a great guy you are. This seems to be a standard tactic of yours of answering a question with an enormous amount of verbiage without addressing the issue.

Finally, I think you don't understand the concept of "putting your money where your mouth is". The point everyone is trying to make is that you don't deserve any money for this work since you said it would be done for free and still haven't performed the work you were paid for.

But it has become obvious that trying to point this out to you is a waste of time, so I am officially giving up. And what I said about this issue coming up every time you post here stands.

I CHALLENGE you to show me a 2475.00 US Postal

money order(a picture of it on this forum MADE OUT TO STEVEN BYRO with the

numbers clearly visable) with your personal written gaurantee that this US

POSTAL Money order is authentic and that this same money order will be at the

designated location (The Four Seasons Hotel) at the time of the transaction.

And that will cost you a lot more costumers.

Sending this guy money? I don't think so. You never know where he is moving next .

And last, if i ever had a problem with anybody and find this bill on a public forum? You are a sad man Very Very sad

And Peter, thanks again for the tally and support,

Mr Byro,

I don´t think it is in any country, even in the US, legal to sell something that is not yours, to just anybody (not the owner) that comes up with the money.

Legally, the rig is not yours, only the tube inside. So remove the tube, bring the sled to the lobby of that hotel and inform the owner to pick it up.

Case closed, problem solved, no strings attached.

Both parties can get back what is entitled to them, with only little or survivable loss.

It´s very clear to everybody on this forum and very likely also to you, that there is no solution to this dilemma unless something radically is done.

And perhaps after that, it is possible to regain the trust of this community.

What's "said" Job are the few steadicam operator's (and 1 vendor with an ax to

grid) in this thread that believe verbal intimidation on the net is a valid tool to

be used for the purpose of shirking a bill owed. The sad point is, this is only a

reflection on them and how they view payment of their own bills.

Job, I own a home (and have an office) in Chicago with a second home (condo)

in Denver. I'm not going anywhere.

Steve Byro

I don't know the completely story of this deal, BUT i do not like that you go public on this, and second, moving without telling where to go and keeping the rig for so long? I would send you a bill for the rent. Do what rob say's and remove the tube, give the rig back and go one with your live.

The logic that I should pay you for work that I don't believe you should be paid for in order to prove that I don't believe you should be paid for it borders on insanity. You call my arguments baseless when you have, in writing, on this forum, confirmed every single point I was trying to make.

As a final note I'd like to request to everyone that we let this thread die. The point that Ron, Peter, myself and others were trying to make has been more than adequately demonstrated. I believe any further postings are entirely futile and serve only as a distraction to everyone else using this forum.

Jim, never mind! (In Thailand the general attitude: Mai Pen Rai)

It´s very clear that the man is locked in his own stubbornness.

No one, not you and I or Jon or anybody else will be able to solve this issue, it has to come from his side and he knows that all too well!!

Everybody has tried to reason with him now, giving solutions and opinions, if he can not extract from this all the general feeling agains his person and actions, he will probably never get it!

So let´s ignore until it is solved

One last post on this subject.

Steve, you "Claim" that I threatened you in a post. I said "Don't make me come and pick up the sled" that's ALL. Any one with a modicum of intelliengence would read that as Do the right thing Byro. But in your paranoia you read it as a threat. Now at this point I don't believe that you went to the chicago FBI, in fact no one there every attempted to contact me and I would welcome it if they did. (Do you have the case agent's name? I could call him myself if you would like). What is interesting is that you posted back via a forum AND email that "If you come near my dog, house or girlfriend" (Now this must be where the pure fantasy starts first off your "Girlfriend" is last in that order, nice guy and that brings me to my next observation that I REALLY don't believe that you have one being a narcissist and all....) that you would do me bodily harm (that made me laugh BTW... Ohhhhhhh I scared) Now THAT is a threat and I'm sure that the FBI would love to hear about it.....

Now about John's sled that you stole, Yup you stole. Funny thing about the motion picture industry, Verbal Contracts are BINDING, don't believe me ask Kim Bassinger. But to show once again how smart you are you ACTUALLY POST ON THE WEB How you are GIVING John the Monitor due to the excessive time it took you to get his property back. So no matter what you say you still owe John his sled WITH THE MONITOR or YOU are in BREACH of YOUR contract.

So Steve, once again do the right thing and give John HIS sled back, it's not yours. Got it?

I was wondering...

Did you really start this thread with vague questions like "what is Steadicam", "Is it esoteric?" just to draw attention to yourself??

Well, I guess you did a good job on that, but unfortunatelly for you, it didn't help much on your image.

Trying to ridiculize and shift blame from your wrong doings over to respected people in the Steadicam comunity is really foolish. Do you really think that anybody reading these posts will respect you as a professional now or in the future?

I don't think so.

Come on..., saying things like "Jim, put your money where your mouth is"?... You gotta be kidding me!! Jim has allways backed all his words with actions, that beeing excellent service.

Just by the fact that somebody expresses their point of view, should they now be liable?

I'm not even discussing if the charge is right or wrong, which seems not to be a question, I'm just trying to make sense out of the nonsense of your logic, and that is probably a task that will never be completed.

I wish you would come to sense and do the right thing for once, maybe, and only maybe, that way you would be able to get a litlle part of your credibility back...

I'm sorry to hear about your fall from a ladder and the subsequent

disabilitating back problems that forced you to quit Steadicam. Steve Byro

Dude. Welcome to the new reality, ok?

Yes, I got banged up badly. However, it's 1:14pm on Thursday, April 15th, 2004. I have a 3:00pm call. I'm the L.D. on a B.M.W. shoot.

Oh, and I'm also the Steadicam Operator. I and my oh-so-rather-sleek Mini.

So, if it's all the same to you, take the sad old man with broken dreams stories and apply then where they're more accurate.

And, have a really nice day. I know I will !!

I created another poll on the journals page.

For some reason you can't post poll's on the general topic page.

I wonder how this poll will turn out? hmmm...

For anyone who has followed this thread to the bitter end (or at least this far if this turns out not to be the end) be sure to go to the poll "John's sled" and read the replies that follow the poll itself. It is one of the funniest things I've seen in years and perfectly illustrates the type of thinking that led to this situation.
