Arri 235

Hi all,

have a job coming up with the 235 and are looking at lo-mode.

Anyone done this? Is there a bracket available yet?

Thanks,

Will Eichler

Hello Will !

I had the 235 once for an Audi commercial and there is no video-top for it.(or at least ARRI couldn´t deliver one) but it just fit perfectly in my BAERBEL low mode cage. It took a bit to figure out how,and we needed some taping on the cage to prevent scratches on the new camera , but in the end we managed to get it in and even were able to change mags with the cage build on !

Pictures turned out fine, no jittering ! Just can recommend getting one !

Hope that helps!

All the best ,good luck and good vibes

Sebastian

Hi Will,

The low-mode bracket does exists, ask your rental house to get it, or if you have time, Locations Michel Trudel, the Arri rental house here in Montreal, has one, ask for Guy at the camera department, 514-932-2171.

It looks like the Arricam LT plate, same design. Lots of holes and very sturdy, takes 1 minute to install. Worth the trouble to get it.

Hey Will,

I remember seeing an ad for a real Steadicam mag for the 235, I think SL Cine might make it. I know it's not an Arri mag (although they say one is in the works), but I know it exists. Having done both Steadicam and handheld with the "Dolphin" shoulder mag, I think that mag should stay in the handheld world.

CSC probably has that mag as well.

Good luck,

There is a very nice "Camera section" a little bit lower down the topic list...

Sorry couldn't resist.

The lay out of the 235 (and the 416 which is the same in design and uses the same IVS) is in that way that you can just remove the optics and ARRI provides just a plate that covers the port and makes the camera 100% video.

They do make a lowmode bracket that looks like a double decker, I lost one layer and it worked very well. In a pinch you can use the "Doggiecam" handle that puts a grip in line and has a couple of threaded holes for your Camera screws...

I didn't care much for the SL Cine Steadimags that are a little bit on the short side. Try to get the real 235 Steadimags, which are 435 mags with a different throat adapter. But at almost $10'000.- a piece the most rental houses will go with the SL Cine's which are in the $4500.- range.

The top picture is at Clairmont with the optic removed. 100% video.

The lower one is at Panavision Hollywood, I left the optics on to off set the bad balance of the SL mag.

Why not?

Come on... to much free time on my hands...

But seriously,

Greg Bubb made this shorty post (10 inches) for an episode of entourage. Playboy mansion, shot starts in the grotto (low ceilings) advances to the pool area with a POV from the pool (shallow end)... and ends above a table... there we go shorty...

LW II with TB-6... balances perfectly...

Of course I had to try it out!

Hi,

I have a scheduled production with an Arri 235, I was wondering which power connector is on the camera? I have cables for an SR3 and didn't know if it's the same. If not I'll try to order a cable or two before production starts the second week of Dec.

Apparently production requested steadi mags for the 235 and they (CSC NY) said they didn't have any? I thought by now it was a common item to find, no?

Thanks,

Christopher Konash
