Premium Members Jeremy Benning Posted May 16, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 16, 2004 Many months ago, I posted some info here about custom Gortex rain covers I had made up for the XCS Ultimate's LEH. I just sent an update out to those operators who had emailed me back then - but in case I missed any of you, I wanted to give an update on the situation. Meredith, the designer/maker, is now on maternity leave - so she will not be making anything for a while. She plans on picking up again in October. In order to streamline this process, we decided that it may be best for the operators to contact her directly about their needs for covers, instead of going through me. If you would like to contact her to express interest in having covers made in October, please email her at: subcouture@sympatico.ca See the image below of what the working covers I have look like that she and I designed together: jeremy
Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted December 9, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 9, 2006 Thanks to Will, Erwin, Simon, Jon and everyone who has helped me try to sort out the Anton Bauer battery situation with my new XCS sled. It will be ready to be picked up in the next couple of days, and since the weather is looking like rain, I'm wondering what people with the XCS (Greg Bubb's sled) are doing about rain gear for the sled. It doesn't look like Camera Essentials makes one, so what are people doing to protect against the elements? Thanks in advance for any help. Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted December 9, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 9, 2006 I thought I combine this two topics... I had inquired about the rain covers but not yet placed an order... I guess I should. (She was out of Black material, only had Navy Blue). I believe that Greg use to make rain gear... As said never had a need as he told me just to get a cover for the monitor and to use clear tape for the display on the LEH. I bought a couple of leads protectors from GPI for the Anton Bauer plates. Clear trash bags worked so far for rain towers... Just the Monitor cover from Camera Essentials didn't cut it, the velcro that keeps the plexiglass cover in place leaks and the rest of the cover collects water to that point that the monitor starts to freeze... Darn... memories... I really should give Meredith a call. Erwin
Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted December 10, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks for digging that up Erwin. It looks like just the thing. Nice design Jeremy! I'll email Meredith and see if she's still making them. Thanks again for the lead. This forum is a great resource. Premium Members WillArnot Posted December 10, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 10, 2006 Hi Brooks / Erwin, The gore tex XCS covers by Meredith are fantastic. I always had trouble with 'sweating' on the inside of other covers that were non breathable, that sometimes produced just as much moisture as one was trying to keep out. Hopefully Meredith is around and has a spare moment. It took me over a year to get mine from her. She was pregnant and then later on sick or busy. Well worth the wait. If only we could get other vendors to make them out of Goretex to prevent the sweating phenomenon. Especially for the TB-6 for example. Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted December 12, 2006 Moderators Report Share Posted December 12, 2006 Hey, if you guys could suggest that she make a larger run of the TB-6 covers, I could use a better one (I too worry about the lack of breathing with my current one). Thanks,

Premium Members Erwin Landau Posted December 12, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 12, 2006 I just received an e-mail from Meredith and e-mailed back with an order. I went, of course, with red for my covers... She was so far doing covers as a "one of" each time. I e-mailed her a link to this discussion, maybe if she gets enough confirmed orders she could make a larger run? E-Mail her directly, she is busy and it takes a couple of days, but she always answers. Erwin

Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted December 13, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 13, 2006 To all of those interested in rain covers for their XCS sled or TB-6 monitors, please email Meredith directly at: subcouture@sympatico.ca She sent me an email letting me know that she was up for doing my rain covers, and wanted all of those interested to contact her directly so that she may buy materials in bulk. She reiterated in her note that she doesn't check her email every day and that it might take her a day or two to respond. Brooks PS Thanks Erwin and Jeremy for putting the word out, and Will for the review.
Premium Members brooksrobinson Posted March 26, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 26, 2007 Just wanted to give everybody an update. I received my XCS rain covers from Meredith and they seem to be top-notch. I haven't had the opportunity to try them in rain (that's a good thing), but the fit and feel of them is fantastic. I would recommend them highly. As Will mentioned earlier, the turnaround isn't the fastest in the industry, but I am very pleased with the result. They fit like a glove, are easy to install, and provide quick access to batteries and the sled. Great design. Brooks Robinson
