dave you are doing a good job on the site. i dont care for the flash and blitz.. i want to be able to move about the cabin freely (so to speak).. meaning.. flash and java and other code schemes just slow the progress of moving around on a site. if you were a website developer i would expect to see all of that. i personally like the clean , no flashy look..

i am a gadget geek and i am always connected to the 'net. i have a pocket pc phone with a 400 mhz procesor in it(overclocked to around 472mhz) and a 16K 3.5 inch screen (the hitachi g1000 for those who care) and i go to the guild site on(as well as other web sites) my handset all the time (almost daily!) and the less scripting thats on the site the easier it is for me to manuever around on my device.

so i say keep it clean and dont worry about the look.. i come there for the valuable knowledge!

ooh yeah, i would love to get a Guild here in atlanta but of the ops who are on the SOA list i have contacted have not replied back. it would also be cool to do a live Guild gathering via web cam. the software is out there (free) and all we need is a laptop or pc and a web cam... then we could all gather around in realtime... that would be cool! or maybe, for a fee dave,, you could bring a laptop and web cam to a guild meeting there in la and to whoever pays the fee or member ship (to keep the site going ) could sit in on the meeting...

just a thought... B)

Marc,

Thanks for your input. I'll put a "Skip Intro" link on the first page so those who've already seen the "Open" can skip it.

As far as a gathering via web cam, I think it's a great idea. I think Dan brought that up a while back. I know the Local 600 in L.A. has a system like that in their conference room. Perhaps we could use that one.

We'll have to look into more.. Keep those ideas a flowin'

Hi David,

I am very happy that you put all the work in to create and maintain the Guild website. It is somewhat location specific as a resource, I use it most often to check up coming events. With that said I appreciate that in Los Angeles you have helped create a touchstone that allows operators to get in/keep in touch with each other. The site is easy to navigate and the famous ops whimsy is a funny addition. You've also devoted a lot of energy to keep the monthly meetings ball in the air and if one needs the latest info it's easy to find. Perhaps you need to enlarge your staff or double your budget (ha ha why not triple!). Thank you from Sherman Oaks.

I have a sheaf of old SOA newsletters that were passed on by Jerry to everyone in SOA steadicam workshop that I attended if you ever need to reference. Let me know if any staff positions do open on the website, very reasonable.

Thanks for the kinds words Mr. Cambell.

Our budget this year is the same as last year $0.

The web space is free. I'm sure most of you that have visited the web site enjoy the pop up poster ad. a small price to pay I suppose. We'll eventually transfer the site to share space with one of our personal web sites and it will be Ad free.

Dan and I would love to have more folks come up with ideas and even organize some of these gatherings and workshops. It could be anything...

Last time Colin and Anthony hosted and organized the Guild BBQ.

That was great fun.

Denis Moran organized the Able Cinetech HD demo.

Kelly and Brad organized an Arri Demo a while back.

Someone else organized the Panavision demo. (oops I forgot who that was.. was that you Erwin? SORRY!)

Greg Code has organized the Feldenkrais Class coming up this month. You should RSVP Greg if you would like to attend. It's on June 26th..details will be posted on this forum and the guild web site.

Perhaps we could have a Steadicam Guild Paintball Day?

I think Daniel mentioned go-cart racing...???

Also don't forget June 12th is the "International Steadicam Guild Gathering" at Dalt's restaurant in Burbank. ALL details are posted on the guild web site including a detailed map of cinegear and Dalt's.

I would love to put the old SOA newsletters on the Guild web site.

We would want to get permission from the SOA however. Anyway from the SOA out there???? Garrett, Jerry, Mike?

Let's go Karting at Dromo1....

Maybe I should warn you all, I used to drive race cars for a living and I taught for Skip Barber Racing school and a few others.....

Eric, would like like to organize this one?

Perhaps we could have this gathering next month?

(Anytime except for July 24th.. that's Dodger night for the Local 600 and I just sent them a check ;) !)
