12V output on a video camera.

Can anyone tell me the pin outs on the 12v Hirose output conector found on most Sony broadcast cameras? Is it a female or male? As I recall it is a 4-pin.

Thanks in advance,

Lawrence

Word of warning. don't try to pull too much power from that plug or you will pop the main breaker on the camera. I think it's only good for 250ma or something absurdly low like that

Yes, very low power. Strong enough for radio mike receivers or a Modulus, but not for an LCD monitor, telepronter (essentially an LCD screen) and certainly not for any onboard light. Most camera battery plates have the 2-pin D-shaped PowerTap that can handle high loads because it drains directly from the battery without going through the camera electronics.

Power out on the Sony cameras is pretty much useless except for, as Mitch pointed out, your mics receiver, which works out great because when you're out shooting you've already got enough on your mind without having to think about something as tedious as, when did I change my AA's last? I' ve wasted a huge amount of batteries in the past erring on the side of safety.
