To date, its the best means of using a soft jumper cable. Triax to Coax. There are some smaller softer triax cables out there, but still nothing as good as a thin coax. Fred Davis Posted May 28, 2004 Report Share Posted May 28, 2004 I now have a product that may interest you. Miniature triax cable with KINGS connectors both ends, (male-female). This is a NEMAL assembly. This product allows the operator to mate with the big, standard triax cable coming from the truck, relieving the wight/tension strain of that cable without having to stepdown to coax. The currrent configuration is designed so that the cable from the truck would be mounted to the operator's vest in back, using a carabiner (sic) or someting, and the mini-triax then extends to the camera. All the stress is taken up at the vest, allowing relatively free movement. The big triax is wrangled by a grip or assistant. I currently have these at 6 ft, (back of vest to camera), but can get them longer if requested. $245 = $1 per additional ft I am curious why the Triax connectors need to be LEMO product. The LEMO's are specifically designed to be inter-mateable with the KINGS standard for triax, so the brand of manufacture should be immaterial. Jeff has discussed with me the flexibility of this cable, and he's not entirely satisfied with it, (I believe he keeps one as a backup for the tri-coax cable). Others I've shown this to are satisfied with the flexibility, so I guess it's a matter of taste. I'll have one at CINEGEAR to look at and comment on. Fred Davis Posted May 29, 2004 Report Share Posted May 29, 2004 Point of clarification: I can get this cable assembly with any connector specified: KINGS, LEMO, or FISCHER at the same price. Just specify which connector preferred. But connector manufacture isn't a factor. They all are inter-matible, as they comply with the specs established by KINGS, the recognised industry standard. I'm told that there used to be an issue with LEMO receptacles...something about a keying difference, so there might be a problem with older equipment that have the old LEMO receptacles. Fred Davis Posted June 4, 2004 Report Share Posted June 4, 2004 The LEMO's (Triax) are specifically designed to be inter-mateable with the KINGS standard for triax, so the brand of manufacture should be immaterial. UPDATE: Further research reveals that the compliance issue is this. The KINGS connector is the standard to which LEMO and FISCHER versions comply, so they are interchangeable. BUT ONLY THE US VERSIONS. European Fischer Triax will not mate with KINGS, or other brand connectors. How F*'d is dat? :angry: Anyway, that explains the need for a specific connector for some people. If the camera is european spec for connectors, you'll need matching brand cable plugs. Here some information which can help others operators the European use lemo specific . For wiring triax of these cards it exists two solutions. 1) a cable of a multi-media type diameter 0.4 mm 75 homs flexible with 3 wire which is used for internal wiring of certain monitors. (2 masses + 1) 2) it is possible to use traditional video cable in 0.4 mm but it is necessary to connect the 2 masses of the card lemo. the problem is , it does not function on all type of cameras . it goes on the thomson 1707 triax and thomson 1657 and surely of other models. in both cases the cable should not exceed a 1.50/2 meters length :D :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
