PaulEdwards
Was wondering if anyone could tell me what type of plastic is used for the Ultra vest (shoulder pieces). I've managed to break them (again); right where the clasps join. Last time I riveted on 'splints' made out of aluminium as a temporary fix. Is the plastic the same as the waist band? Any info. gratefully received. Paul

Premium Members Mark Calver Posted August 11, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2007 Yeah I have the same problem as Paul. Only I have an older Provid vest but yesterday I snapped the plastic too. I was wondering if anyone out there knows maybe a site online where you can get just those bickles pretty cheap? If you're talking about the plastic "ski boot" style buckle on the current Ultra vests, they sell them at Tiffen for about $10 or so; I bought a few as spares and was surprised how low the price was. Premium Members Mark Calver Posted August 11, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2007 (edited) actually no it was the side release clasp that just lock into each other. I actually was able to find one at sport chalet just the buckle. I just drilled a few holes and bought little hex bolts to replace the rivets it works pretty good and it was an under 5 dollar fix. Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted August 11, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 11, 2007 Peter Abraham (now works at Tiffen) used to rebuild vests -- he probably doesn't anymore but he'd be able to answer all questions and turn you on to plastic suppliers. Premium Members Colin Donahue Posted July 10, 2012 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 10, 2012 My LX vest is 8 yrs old and breaking down. The plastic is broken right where the buckle is attached on the shoulder on each side where it hooks into the front section of the vest. I see other people have had problems, but I am not sure if they are the same as this. The entire back of the vest is plastic with fabric sewn over it, so I think I would need to replace the entire piece. Any ideas of how to repair or replace this? I´m (trying) speak about the plastic that Ultra vest is made. The front (plastic) panel of the vest, was broken 3 times, but Tiffen repair it with no cost... (may be, next time some one ask to me about it.... I had a crying crisis :( )
