New fiber optic technology might bode well for Steadicam

This article caught my eye. Apparently the folks at Corning glass have solved the problem of signal loss due to curvature of glass fibers.

I know the Copperhead does fairly well when the cable is bent but other systems might not fare similarly. If this new fiber design becomes the standard, users like us might be in the position of being able to tuck the cables in and around things as we used to with very thin Coax, without fear or snapping the glass or signal strength loss.

Interesting stuff.

HI Peter,remember me?!Hope you're doing great?!

I've just worked on a HD soccerproduction last week and the guys of the ob-van gave me a 2m long glassfibreadapter with an extremely flexible 3mm cable to put between their cable and my steadicam! It was perfect! You almost couldn't feel it!And it worked perfektly!!When I asked the guys told me it was made by LEMO here in Munich!

I'll be in Spain for two weeks but after thas I'll give them a call and find out how much they want for it!!

If you're interested, let me know!!

Keep it coming!

Hey there, Guido and Peter,

This stuff sounds pretty cool I would like to see if it's smaller than the fiber adapter I bought, Mine cost me $600 for a six foot piece, and I bend it into little circles all the time . . Hmmmm. Mine has power in it as well. Every other show I do these days is attached to a fibercable and HD, so Ya, I'm looking for a smaller more flexible jumper cable.

I think I got mine through Mohawk 2 Fiber, 5 conductor, Contact Leslie @ 800-422-9961

Let me know

Oh and Guido, I'm trying to match your wicked peli cases you had custom cut, unfortunately as I am finding out, gluing and cutting isn't that easy . . .LOL . . .I'll send photo's when I get them finished
