Premium Members Charles Papert Posted August 26, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 26, 2007 Stephen, I think you nailed it right there--one customer might want firewire, another might want audio. What's a manufacturer to do? Also given the fragility of firewire connectors, what happens when your cable breaks, either the connector or the cable itself? I know I've had firewire cables go bad on me in my home edit system, and they are not even being strained or unplugged--they just go bad by themselves! The big rigs incorporate multiple strand coiled cables with multipin connectors, with various isolated power leads, video and other signals from top to bottom. However the cost of such a post and cable assembly is at least as much as the entire Indicam setup. It would be interesting to see how many people would pay extra for a sled at this price point that incorporated the extra wiring, and how much extra would they pay. Generally those who are using rigs of this size are interested in paying the absolute minimum they can and working around the deficiencies. Incidentally the new Pilot sled has a slightly wider diameter center post than the Flyer (and is less expensive to boot), however I do not believe it has any additional cabling. Premium Members Martin Stacey Posted September 4, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 4, 2007 The V25 sled might be a viable option. It has a larger post than the Flyer and the bottom of it is wide open to the world. Cheers, Martin
