soren k jensen
The red post handle on the Flyer is a bit small for me. Has anyone found a good way of adding something to it that will make its radius bigger? Rubber, hard foam or something?

Hi Soren, not sure what part is red on the Flyer but you can use handlebar wrap for bicycles or grip wrap for golf clubs and tennis rackets. I have my C24 gimbal grip wrapped with bicycle handlebar tape from RAV-X. It is the type that has little perforations in it and a thread sewn down the middle. It was nicer and easier on my hands than the knurled grip on the gimbal and it added a little radius as well. You can buy a few years worth for under $15 at a bike shop. soren k jensen
Hi Robert, It's the grip. I am still not so familiar with the different Steadicam part names :P;-) That is a really good tip (cheap, easy, quick and smart, my favourite), many thanks! Yeah If there is one thing I would change about the Flyer its the diameter of the center post. It just looks too weedy. Maybe you could put some of that foam pipe insulation on it :-D
Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted April 10, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 10, 2008 Just a note of caution with small rigs and big diameter grips - you get a lot more leverage with a bigger grip, and there's a lot less inertia to push around. One reason the JR and Merlin operating surface is sooooo tiny is the really small inertia of those rigs. I agree the Flyer feels/seems small, but a standard diameter grip (about 2" in diameter) would be counterproductive. Go lightly. Premium Members Peter Hoare Posted April 12, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 12, 2008 Hi Jerry, Ive been avidly watching your EFP dvd for the last few days. Its nice to see that the gimbal on the EFP is pretty similar to the flyer. The skinny centre post is the one part of the flyer that I dont like, but as you said, its skinny for a reason. Hopefully going to upsize soon. I had also noticed how small the control parts of the merlin are, I have big hands and I can support the merlin with three fingers :-D Thanks. Premium Members James Elias Posted April 22, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 22, 2008 Peter: The new Flyer LE has a thicker grip - just over 1.5" and it's very sweet. Check it out when you can. - James

Konstantin Zettiness
I have a similar problem. I just bought CAME H4 stabilizer for GH4 and while the general build quality looks alright, the handle grip is from a really nasty foam that I get skin allergy from -- even grabbing it drives me insane. What are my options to replace it with? Will a bicycle grip work with it? The tube's diameter seems to be around 2.2cm or 0.8".
