Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted July 18, 2009 Moderators Report Share Posted July 18, 2009 Ron, I think they are actively working in the film business on-set as well meaning that the delivery time is directly proportional to their current employment status. I've ordered stuff and had it within two weeks. Not justifying their lack of communication, but their products are great so if its not a critical need..... Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted July 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2009 That would explain some of the problems, but when I finally received a reply from Krystal last week she said "I will verify the check clearance and consult with our manufacturer on the status of your items" giving the impression that they are having them made? But it's a nice product and waiting is not that big a deal as long as they can be contacted to let you know what's up. They say on their site how you can customize all their stuff but I don't even know how you'd do that without talking to someone. rb
Premium Members Matt Petrosky Posted July 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted July 18, 2009 Yeah, they make great products, but both times I've ordered it's taken about 7-8 weeks to get them. The 2nd time I ordered a custom sled case, based on their design, but with slightly different dimensions. I just took their drawing and modified the dimensions and sent it back to them as a PDF via email. Simple because this was a simple bag. Trying to customize something more complex with compartments and dividers like the FI+Z bag would be harder. -Matt
Brett Manyluk
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to let the cat out of the bag up here in Western Canada, but you guys are frustrated... I'm quite sure Modular 51 is an intermediary. Many of us up here just make a direct call to the manufacturer. Some items are on the shelf ready to go, others are sewn up in batches as you order them. I don't think I've waited longer than 4 weeks, and most orders are only a week away. Textile Innovations (formerly Northwestern textiles) are also known for doing complete custom builds of ANYTHING you can imagine. Entire camera cart rain covers (brilliant!), Genesis VTR and toaster backpacks, custom sled covers, arms covers, pouches in all sorts of sizes, and more custom size bags (with custom pouch configurations, direction of orientation, and material) than you can shake a stick at. You won't find a camera crew from Vancouver to Winnipeg without a small fortune in their products because they are THAT GOOD. I once showed their full size ditty bag to a sizable military textile contractor I know, and he remarked about the quality and said there was no way he could make something similar for less than $450 and break even. I don't know how Colin does it, but I challenge anyone to compare their products to any other manufacturer (minus shipping to France...) keeping in mind that all their products are fully rain-sealed (including "Passchendaele"-intensity rain towers). I have no idea why shipping to France is so expensive. Perhaps the layover for Beaujolais Nouveau? Brett

Katerina Kallergis
After many emails to Mod 51 and no response I decided to go a different route. Yes their cases are great but why does one have to chase down a company to order a product. Since the anvil sled case I had was too cumbersome, I looked on the web for some companies that make custom soft cases with the the high density foam. Many phone calls later, after being turned down because the companies only made things in bulk, I found a company in Florida that made the sled case for me. Altogether it cost me $220, including shipping. The dimensions are 25" x 26"x 10". They used a durable, water resistant nylon material for the outside shell, a heavy duty zipper around the 3 sides, 3 quick release snaps for added safety and a shoulder strap and separate handles. They provided me with a special foam glue because I decided to cut the foam myself. They could have cut the foam but it would have cost more money. The 10" thickness was made up of 2" thick layers of foam (hence the glue). I am happy with the way it came out. If anyone is interested in getting a soft case and would like to check it out, the name of the company is Christian Workshop and the website is http://www.caseworksoft.com. Here are some pics. -Kat
Premium Members Ari Gertler Posted December 22, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2009 How did you cut the foam?
Katerina Kallergis
How did you cut the foam? After marking the outline of my sled and various other openings I thought useful. I cut it with an electric knife.
Babita Thondu
an old thread -- but add me to the list of "patiently" waiting for their cool stuff. After checking out many of their bags used by NY ops, I thought I'd try them out. Order placed May 19...check cleared June 3rd (5 weeks ago yesterday)...no response to my e-mails via their web site (I did just e-mail Krystal directly, though I understand this is an old thread and who knows if she is still there). It's always nice to know about vendors (and which ones to stay away from). I'm between shows so I knew waiting was no biggie -- I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised. I was going to give them 6 weeks from my check clearing before launching a full on assault I'll keep you posted. rb Did you ever go your order..?? The bags are great and a decent price, but took almost 8 weeks to get with no returned calls or emails until I rattled their cage. Too bad the customer service is so bad, it's a great product.
