It is a bit of a pig with the flash mags, but I thought if flew very well tethered. I ran a very light weight jumper BNC from the camera to my arm where I had a real BNC running back to my vest. The DIT didn't see any problem with it. He was from the EU where they run 100 meter HDSDI runs all the time. It is front heavy with an S4 and no flash mag. It was a huge battery hog, mostly because we were afraid to turn it off. If we shut down, about 30% of the time we would get a bad reboot, would have to shut down again, reboot, the DIT would have to come over make sure we had a good boot, then we could shoot. So as a result we just let it purr right along sucking up my batts. It doesn't like to get extremely hot. We had it refuse to respond to the helm a few times on interiors where the temp hit 105 or so. Refused to stop the mirror shutter, wouldn't turn off. Next, I pretty much hate the D20 when compaired to a film camera but in the world of HD it's pretty decent. Cheers, Nick Gardner hi nick! thanks for the information! i have been flying it for the last few days with no problems really besides the weight... we are not recording to any flash mags, but to a deck that is usually at video village. as for the battery power and booting the camera up, i really havent had any problems with that either. i am running the IDX power cubes with my sled and we change batteries once in the middle of the day, maybe twice if the day is extremely long. booting the camera up has been smooth every time thus far as well. the main thing i am having issues with is the actual weight and front heavy-ness of the camera. since we arent using flash mags, the camera is majorly front heavy and with master primes, it just adds to that factor. i weighed the camera, just by itself at clairmont with a lowmode bracket in place of the optics and it came out to 37.5lbs. that is without the lense. when fully built, with wireless video, focus, iris, (2 bartech transmitters and m-one motors), mat box, 27mm master prime, it came in at 53.6 lbs. i i also ended up adding weight rods to the bottom of my sled to have the option of a shorter post. if you have any suggestions, comments, ect. i definitely welcome them. we have three days left with this beast, and everything helps. i appreciate the comments from everyone! and the archived posts were also very helpful! thank you! If it weighs 53 lbs I'm pulling the quick release and walking away (not sure it could really weigh that much as it's too much for even a pro arm). I will weigh it at the prep later this week. Can't wait to see what accessories will be available -- and most likely not available -- from Claremont. Come by and say howdi. A person to talk to would be John Radzik: 1 (310) 429-5954, He flew the D-20 MK2 which is now the D-21 for I think 5 weeks in Jordan last year. According to the new specs, the Body is 19 lbs, with view finder it's 25 lbs. It's not to bad considering the cables involved etc. He just remarked that if you end up using the Venom with the set up it get's into the F-900 longevity of the beast... I'm at Clairmont tomorrow morning (Tuesday) if you need any advanced info. I'm trying to fly and turn over a 435 at high speed for the first time since I bought into the Dionics... will see how foolish I will feel after I sold my NiCad batts... It is wide, but was easy to set up and dynamic balanced very well. The low mode bracket is pretty sturdy and nearly as big as a snow shoe, but only weighed 2 lbs with two 6 inch rods attached. What most impressed me is the low power consumption. It is listed as having a 2.1 amp draw at 24 fps, which I was sure was bs. Turned out they were right as my partially charged pro ni-cads powered the thing for 30 minutes before I grew bored and gave the camera back to the assistant. The batteries only dropped one volt, from 26 to 24.9 during the 30 minutes with the camera's electronics, the spinning mirror, the preston, and cine-tape powered up. I was equally surprised when I dropped it onto a scale. The afore mentioned 56.6 lbs must have been including the sled because I got 32 lbs with all the following accessories: body, low mode bracket with two 6" rods, two pro plates, two preston motors, clip-on mattbox with eyebrow, cine-tape, one 4x5 filter, 40mm master prime, and all cables. here's the camera with the above listed aks on the scale (and out of focus!): the low mode plate w/ rods: a spinner for the best boy: Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
