Looks like they have copied the Progear vest which was dodgey at best to begin with

Hey Martin :D

Just a note, for $1000USD the Progear's great! I use the vest with my Master Series Broadcast + Silver Spring arm combination and it works just fine, it was the long wait to get it and the lousy service after, that sucked big time!!

This thing though isn't even close to the Progear in quality!

Cheers

I could be wrong but isn't this just a progear vest re branded? It looks identical to me and they even have the same sales blurb.

"Retire your old 3A vest and buy a new product for less than it cost to repair the old one."

Is this Just Jan trying to shed his old reputation or some Indian rip off of possibly the worst vest ever made?

I tried to buy one when I was in Copenhagen a few years back but I couldn't get hold of Jan to try it on before I bought it, he gave me the run around for days and I was reluctant to part with my money without trying it on. It should have been no problem I was in Denmark and so was the vest apparently. I eventually decided that it was a bit dodgy for me and left town, I think he just wanted my money in his bank account.

I have tried a progear vest on and the fit was horrible but hey Norbert if it works for you then great.

The socket block is on backwards but that can be easily fixed with an allen key.

Laters.

Dave.

Hi Dave

I have to admit that I've only had the chance to try on one other vest and that was from and EFP rig so my perspective is limited but it seems to work for me or I have one of those strange shaped bodies that normally require the services of Omar the Tentmaker to fit so who knows. :D

Concerning the rebadge, I wouldn't be surprised that, being the entrepanuer he is, he's outsourcing like everyone else nowadays. <_<

Cheers

Norbert

I doubt this is a rebranded vest from Jan as these guys are known for copying other companies designs and putting them out as their own. The Flycam gear is remarkably like the Glidecam handheld rigs. They have a number of rod systems and matteboxes that resemble the Cavision products and Redrock has been investigating legal action as they are now marketing a 35mm adapter that is a direct copy of their M2 kitset design.

On the other side of the coin, I have bought a couple of products from them in the past and their quality is surprisingly good for the price and the shipping and communication was very good. Far better than I have recieved from companies based in most Western countries to honest.)

Obviuosly I haven't seen this particular vest first hand but it does resemble the Progear vest considerably which I have tried and disliked immensely. It felt stiff and uncomfortable to me but like anything in this industry personal preference has a lot to do with what you purchase and what didn't work for me may be just fine for someone else as Norbert has indicated. To be honest the things that most struck me about the Progear vest that I didn't like was that the one that I tried was almost new but the plastic that is used to replace the traditional leather on a 3A vest had started to crack on one side from the stitching and I would presume would just to work it's way across the vest over time. The particular vest had already had the bolts holding the socket block mounting plate to the spar snap under load dropping both arm and sled onto the ground, (not a pretty picture in anybodies mind). And the snap over tension clamps are extremely good at breaking fingers and biting off nipples. Ouch!!!

As I said these are just my personal experiences with the Progear vest and they are all relative. If you are happy with your vest Norbert then that is great and I'd be just glad that you actually recieved it after you had paid your money but I will say this. If you ever get the chance to try a Pro, Ultra or Klassen vest then DON'T!!!! You will hate your Progear vest from that point onwards.

Just my 2 cents,

Martin
