Tiffen Accessories PDF file, you should be able to find the conversion on here. I worked at a studio that had the provid to master series socket block conversion on their provid. It made a huge difference compared to the "pin" style. But it was still a provid, yuck. The weight you guys are talking about on that arm is too much, but the real problem is that weight on that rig, not nearly enough weight to counter balance. Correct me if I'm wrong but, that 26lbs is total weight not a 26lb camera???

Nop, the Provid can handle 15 to 26lbs of cameraweight.. the provid 2 the same as the sk2, 9 to 19lbs of cameraweight.

Counterbalance can be achieved if you add for example a batterymount 'under' the sled.

On the SOA site you can find a picture of Jeffery Cools who's has a modified Provid with 24v mod (you can see the extra batt for 24 and also counterbalance below)also a hd monitor mod etc etc..

I have attached a copy of this picture.

I always thought it would make a great running rig. Make sure you consider the extra battery as part of the payload. Looks like the weight he saved by using an lcd has been "moved" to the bottom in the form of an extra battery -- a nice set up.

Hey Mark,

Both Pro and XCS rent really great steadicam set-ups and I'm sure everybody will agree with me, that you get what you pay for. Don't go out and find a 'deal' with "Uncle-Steadi-Rentals Inc.", only to find out that the package is missing something or even better yet, not working properly or broken.

One thing I do find a little surpising though, is on your website's home page, the first word that appears on the right hand side is "35mm". I would be very careful how you represent yourself. In some circles, some might say that this is a heavy miss-representation, especially when it appears that you don't have any experience with and can't support the 35mm format.

Therein lies the complication of wearing multiple hats (I know this well); if you click on Mark's Cinematography link you will see that he has shot 35mm spots (and indeed, he lists himself as cinematographer in the header, with Steadicam as an additional service).

Thus I don't see a problem with 35mm being indicated as such, although Mark, I don't really think you need it and that text sort of detracts from the nice still. You wouldn't see that pronouncement (here are the formats I have shot!) on the home page of more experienced DP's websites, so in a way you are tipping the hat; you follow me? Anyone who might want to view your work will immediately see the format listings for the individual clips on the following pages.

Charles - I think you are correct in that once you click on Mark's Cinematography link, you do see that he has indeed been the DOP on a 35mm spec spot. The point I was attempting to address is that one should be careful what they advertise and the method(s) in which they do it.

If you read the various pages on Mark's site (www.markcalver.com) you will see that there are many 'grey area' statements which could be easliy misinterpreted by the wrong parties and become a danger to one's career in the short and long term. (As we all know our 'word' means everything.)

As a DP once said to me, "James, we're in this game for life." I understand what Mark is attempting to do, but there is always more than one way in which you can reach your goals. Misleading people can only due damage to yourself in the end. Honesty is the best pollicy when it comes to your career. Those that chose to work with you will respect & thank you for it.

Just my Canadian two cents ....

Hi Mark,

I also added a steel socket block to the Provid arm and changed out the original ProVid vest for a 3A style one. I agree with Charles. Sometimes we want our mid range rigs to play like the full size ones and it could get sketchy. I snapped my SK arm flying a BetacamSP a number of years ago and well...we don't want to do that again...lol :)

I guess we should let Mark respond to this.

WoW do I feel like an idiot!! Haha during the time you guys continued on this post that went onto the way my website is presented I hadn't been to the forum in a while and never saw that you had written so many more post. I was just searching the archives and saw this. In response these several months later. I agree with you Charles That I don't really need to state mediums in which I am shooting. I just thought at the time it looked good, but can see how it might look amateur now. However Like you said I was stating that I can shoot 35mm not that I can operate steadicam with 35mm, and my intention was never to confuse or misinterpret anything.

-Mark
