just wondering who might be building the red one power cables

thanks

Dear Mark,

Check out Jeroen Hendriks at Lexmond Inc. - not only is the best cable maker I've ever used, but he was recently under contract to RED, so he will know what you need. He can be reached at (818) 384-4323 or jeroen@lexmond.com

Good luck.

Just be careful, a lot of RED users are skeptical of outside sources for power supply, a few cameras have gotten fried from some bad juice. I told my guy that I wanted to test a power cable out and he looked as if I had just asked to take his 1950's Jaguar out on a race track.

I reassured him that mine was build by Steadicam with instruction from RED.

-Good luck

Yeah, this power thing with RED needs to be sorted out. I've heard lots of ghost stories but no concrete explanations. This has inspired me to put up a thread at Reduser about this. If I want to power the camera off my rig for lightweight work, I need to know why this isn't possible or if it is just superstition.

aloha charles

i got a red power cable built last week by jeroen lexmond

i got ahold him on saturday (jeroen@lexmond.com)

had the cable by tuesday, could have been sooner

if it had been a super rush, and my hat is off to jeroen

very nice craftsmanship and he made the cable red for me

very kool (red peeps should be stoked)

but main thing i had no problems powering thru my sled

so i was able to keep the red storage up top in the carriage

worked on and off from 9a to 9p and no down time downloading cards

the camera flew very nice and i had a great time

so at this point i am claiming superstition

and no wobbles that from the camera plate

which had been mentioned in another post

Hi,

The plugs on the end of the cable looks like the standard LOMO power plugs... You can get them from RS components and its a simple job to put your own bit of wire in between....

According to the RED manual the RED end of the power cable is a LEMO plug FGG.2B.306.CLAD 62 Z

Pins 1 & 2 +12V DC

Pins 3 & 4 - VDC

it says it is important to use both pairs of pins.

I'm not sure if using a PRO sled whether it would be best to use one 3 pin LEMO power port only or make a siamese cable that also uses the 2 pin LEMO auxiliary port as well. This would allow you to hot swap batteries on the sled and not have to power down the camera (which takes a while to boot up) if you are in a rush.

Terry West (310-374-5711) just made up a RED to PRO power cable for me and followed the "Y" format as he does with Genesis to PRO power cables.

Greg Bubb made RED power cables for my Ultimate. They work fine.

I would recommend using the Aux port on a PRO as well. With the hard drive the camera pulls close to 6 Amps on a 14.4 Volt batterie.

One the other hand the rental house refused to make run/stop cables for the a camera Arri LCS and my cmotion because of "contradictory information" (what ever that means) they got from RED. We're on the 10th day of shooting and still waiting.

I attached 4 pages with the connector assignment of the RED. IMHO pretty straight forward.

Its from the "build_15_ops_guide_2.2.5.pdf" from the RED homepage.

Terry West made a Red power cable for my Glidecam Gold (Sled Camera Power out, Lemo 3 pin 1B303, to Red One Power in, 2B306) and it worked fine. Great Job! Terry. I didn't use y-cable since my Glidecam Gold can send power from two batteries (same as a 24 volt camera) so I can swap one battery at a time without tuning the camera off.

I also got a Run/stop cable for my Bartech BFD and it worked like a piece of a Brooklyn cheese cake. Thanks Jim! I connect it to Red One Aux 12v power output port 1(Lemo 0B304).

Here are some pictures from the set.
