Steadicam JR Lite

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

I am thinking of getting a steadicam JR lite for my dv camcorder, a JVC GR DV-700. On the steadicam website though it says that the JR lite is for camcorders weighting 2-4 pounds.

My camcorder only weighs about 1.7 pounds, maybe 1.8-1.9 if I put a microphone on it.

Will the JR lite still work with my camcorder or should I just not bother getting it?

thanks in advance for the advice.

The best way to be sure if it works is to try it out.

Many people could answer and tell you compleat opposite versions of the story. It has to work for you and you alone. Go to your next store that carries them and bring your Camera along. But:

Call Tiffen and talk to them, or:

You can get most prosumer Steadicam models like the JR or Mini through B&H in New York. They have a 30 day return policy. Order it and try it, if it does not work send it back. So you will have a couple of days to experiment.

Just a thought.

If all you are concerned about is the weight limit, you could get a small steel plate machined that weighs approx 1-2lbs and add that to the camcorder/plate assembly. This will bring it into the proper weight range.

But as Erwin said earlier, give one a try first.

Good luck!

New Yorks a bit far for me, a few thousand miles to far since I live in London! I didn't realise this was an American forum. Anyway, thanks for the replies guys. If anyone who frequents this forum knows of any places in london that sell steadicam JR, please let me know.

Also, about adding weight to my camera, would that work? It weighs about 1.8 pounds now, so if I just add a tiny metal weight that would bump it up to over 2 pounds. Is that ok, or would it unbalance the camcorder somehow and stop the steadicam working properly?
