Hi all,

it's been a while since we talked about the chasecam. Looks like it's for real now and available for $525 (not including the Lisagav). It's about 4" x 5" x 2", weighs 14 oz and the site says it's typical users are Steadycam ops! Looks like there's a lemo with pwr/video, a bnc in and out, and built in mic (it can also take 4 AA batts).

Anyone using this thing? How much does the archos weigh/what are the approx dimensions?

I've called and emailed multiple times about the Chasecam over the last year, only once was I actually able to get someone on the phone and he was like "oh, another Steadicam operator" like we are a nuisance. His answers were dodgy to say the least and the product always seems to be on backorder or they're moving their offices or they are on expedition chasing elephants in Antarctica. Seems like vaporware and a similar business approach to a few others that have been "discussed" here. They'll post something like "we have X thousand units that just arrived but we have to test each one and until we do we can't take any orders and we're so busy we don't know when we can get around to it".

Would love to see one myself and also know that there is a good company behind it; maybe there is but I've seen no evidence of it yet.

Ron, I have an ARCHOS AV500 that you are more than welcome to use and test for a few weeks. It's a nice unit but I've settled on using a Sony PC-5 miniDV at this point. I'll bring the ARCHOS over to LA this weekend for you and maybe you and I can go out to the beach and cruise with Rob in his new babe magnet-mobile.

Ron,

I spoke to them a few months ago. They told me it would be a month and they'd call me back. Never heard from them. I have not followed up because I'd still like to find something smaller and lighter. I do know of two ops that have them here in New York and both seem to like them. Here is a link to Sergei Franklin's web site where he talks about his experience: http://earthvideo.net/stcmmod.html

I really want something with simple non-menu buttons, etc so I'm still tempted to get one (if I can) but Charles mentioned another unit in this thread here:

So, now I'm waiting until I can find out more about that unit. The Archos seems nifty enough but I want something very durable and again not menu driven.

thanks Alec

seems like it would be great to mount behind an lcd for extra wt if there was a remote read-out/control of somekind in an accessible place...I'll try to give them a call (hope I don't bother them).

Robert -- call me when you're in town -- maybe we can do some wheeling.
