Hey Morgan,

Some specs :

MOVIECAM SL with :

- 120m/400 ft load

- optical finder

- videotap,

- 50mm lens

- grip

- handle

- base plate.

Weight, ready to shoot: 6.1kg/13.4 lbs

So approx 12 lbs left for :

- the 24v 8Ah Block

- clip on Mattebox

- FF

- other lenses..

Hey M,

A Moviecam SL is a 24V camera & correct me if I'm wrong, but I think your sled is only capable of 12V cameras. Reguardless, you should go to the rental house, put the camera on your glidecam and see if you could work with the set-up. As for powering the camera - if you have to, you could always have a grip carry a 24V battery block along side you - but this is never very fun. If you do go this route, search the forum for 'tricks on tethering', as you will want to isolate the power cable, in your quest to stay steady.

Hope this helps,

J.

Erik, thanks for the specs, its quite a lightwight camera huh!

James your right, my rig is only 12v so i will need to power camera from on board batts if poss, dont want to be cabled to anything if i can avoid it. i suspect with on board batt and the preston it will be pretty close to the rigs limit.

i think i can get the camera a week before the shoot, so ill find out one way or another.

thanks

Morgan,

The SL (like most 35mm cameras) does not have an option for onboard batteries. You'll have to modify your rig or go with an umbilical I'm afraid. That said, many of the Moviecam Compacts could actually run on 12V (search the archives from years ago - maybe even the old AOL folders - posted by Peter Abraham, I t think). Not sure about the SL, but if you have enough prep time you could look into it.
