Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted April 14, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2008 Has any one seen the new Clipper 312/324? It looks pretty nice, more like the U2 then the Masters. I thought I had a new rig (got my clipper 24 just a year a go) but I guess it?s an older model now. http://www.steadicam.com/ Looks like the big differences are: ?Go to? buttons on the gimbal I do not know if it is a new gimbal but it does say something about a tool to re-center it in the field. A HDSDI BNC instead of the unique conector for RGB HD New Monitor mount I found this the most intresting line ?The new Wide Dovetail Lock has a broader, more positive grip on the dovetail plate. The handle has a safety stop to prevent accidental release.? My sled was in for repair this year and Tiffen replaced a number of parts in the top stage (under warranty thank you!). From what as I can tell I think I have the wide Dovetail lock but I do not have the safety stop. I want it! To me, the locking system I have seems too easy to accidentally un-lock. I hope this will be an up-grade that is easy and affordable. I will say I?m happy I got my rig without the electronics in the top stage/gimbal. Maybe after a few years of operating I will feel different. All of you at NAB will have to let us know what you think.

John Pappas
Flew the 312 and 324 today at NAB. What can I say? Nice. Impressive. Basically has everything I need in a rig. John Pappas East Coast, AUSTRALIA

Premium Members Lars Erik Posted April 15, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2008 Look very, very nice. One point though, the bottom part looks quite light. This makes me think of what will happen to the set-up when flying the bigger cameras. One would have to lower the gimbal or make the sled quite long. Am I right in this assumption? Anyone know? Just asking because I'm a short sled guy. LE
Premium Members Häakon Posted April 15, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2008 Any word on pricing yet?? I flew the new 312 at NAB and was totally blown away. What a sweet, fluid rig. I was told the price was ~$36,900 from a Tiffen employee; this comes with an SD monitor and no electronics in the stage. The 324 comes with the motorized stage standard; both require upgrades to an HD or Ultrabrite monitor. The differential is only ~$7,000 now from the base price of an Archer (which also comes with an SD monitor standard), so it's almost a no brainer. I was extremely impressed. Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted April 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2008 The 324 comes with the motorized stage standard I was one of the operators brought in by Steadicam to help with demo's and I believe the motorized top stage is an upgrade. By all means check with Steadicam. It is a very nice rig. We actually put a movie cam compact on the 324. But the top stage is not as wide as the Ultras and you might not be able to fly your bigger cameras.
Premium Members Häakon Posted April 18, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 18, 2008 I was one of the operators brought in by Steadicam to help with demo's and I believe the motorized top stage is an upgrade. As the price list shows, there is an additional charge. :) Sorry about that; I was just going by the information I was given at the Tiffen booth. Still, a good value for this unit I think.
