I mentioned this to Marianne and she said it should be an easy upgrade not sure if it's done yet or not.

(The) only thing I miss in the HD6 is the onscreen Voltage display, or did I miss that one?)

Call Jacques,

That's the kind of feedback he thrives on.

See you at IBC,

Chris

So for the uninitiated, does this monitor also do digital bubble as well as framelines, when you're pumping HD-SDI into it?

And it does look good outdoors - is it a good performer in both bright sunlight or against a washed-out grey sky?

Yes to both questions. Job?

Yes. Only when switching to HD, you have to turn on the bubble and/of framelines again. But i made memorys for sd, hd and live tv work. One push and your ready to go. About performer, i feel its even better then my old cine III. Its bright, and its SHARP. The iris control is super B too. My only problem i have is that my focuspuller wants it, and trys to talk me into my old Cine III, so he has the great picture. Btw, the tally rocks, really great.

Overall, its the best lcd i have seen so far.

Note from the IBC:

I've been working hall 11 with the Handsfree for the last 3 days. It's such a stable platform I realised the 4x sensitivity on the horizon of the Cinemonitor wasn't quite enough (choices are true, 2x, and 4x), so I rolled by Jacques booth as asked him if 8x and 16x was possible. He replied:

It is possible, but the problem is I won't be able to re-write the software for you before 5 pm.

I'm stunned.

While he's re-writing can he address the possibility of moving the position of the electronic bubble anywhere on the screen?

That mod's already done, though I think he works on the software continually. He doesn't seem to treat any of his gear as 'finished' products, which bodes well for his upcoming HD transmitter, and in-monitor digital recorder. I'm happy with the existing horizon options, but I'll mention it to him, certainly. I really recommend you call or email him yourself. He likes hearing from users and potential users.

Hi all,

I was speaking to Jacques today at IBC and mentioned the onscreen Voltage readout. He told me he was already working on it, but the fact that the entire power circuitry of the monitor is totally isolated from the rest of the boards posed some problems that go beyond mere programming. But apparently these problems have been solved and the upgrade will be available in about 4 months, I was told. Top notch...

x8 and x16 horizon sensitivity is implemented, and very useful.

Chris

Same here, took him 3 minuts to do it. 16 is very fast, but 8 is wonderfull. 16 can be usefull, but i have to figure out what for :-)

But you guys should do this upgrade, its great to have the 8 option.

Second monitor ordered for my assistent, for those hd jobs. Asked for more detail, will be ready next month. Jacque is really a great guy, and really wants to hear our input, AND comes with the solution. Overall, i am more then happy with the product.

I had a chance to use the monitor on a gig yesterday with a hired in Pro-Lite in Berlin.

My only gripes if I were to own one would be that I would like some user assignable buttons, a feature I like on my Blackbird, so if I want a quick button to show me a particular waveform I could go straight to it rather than cycle through the other options.

Also I found the menu wheel scrolling a bit skittish, whilst it has a nice positive notched turn, one turn doesn't always seem to take you to the next option on the menu and pressing it often resulted in it jumping to an adjacent option and selection that instead. This seems like it should be a simple fix though.

Overall I liked it, good build quality lovely image and lots of features.

I really want this monitor.....but after reading above that there's going to be an in-monitor digital recorder, I'd be willing to wait for that version.

Would anyone have insight as to when this upgrade might become available?

Bry

I am sure he can build it in after

so...is this monitor still treating everyone well?

I'm glad you asked...because I've just been waiting for the excuse to write in and bore you all by telling you HOW F***ING BRILLIANT MY NEW MONITOR IS, when I've done it about ten times in this thread already; but here we go.

Before going to shoot in the Amazon rainforest, I mentioned to Jacques that I'd probably leave my lovely Transvideo at home. I guess I expected him to agree?wrong. He reminded me that the unit is completely sealed, with?get this?a goretex plug in the back that allows any moisture to get 'pumped' out when the monitor is running.

For 5 weeks, through 100% humidity, 100F + temperatures, tropical downpours, and equatorial sunshine, the monitor performed so wonderfully that I never doubted it for one minute. I love the frame-line options, where I was able to quickly enhance the barely-visible frame seen through the video tap, and then lower the view outside the frame by a couple of stops, so I could still see what was about to enter frame. The horizon was great too. i cycled through the options until I settled on my favourite one.

Best of all, I still love the look of the picture. I feel I can see the movie I am shooting. A subjective opinion, perhaps, but one I have experienced with no other monitor. You can fall into those blacks.

So yes, we are very happy together!

Chris

P.S. Jacques is working on an HD transmitter which I hope to test. I'll post some specs soon.
