Champion! Dave. Dave, I wasn't sure if you were asking for a critique of the whole peice, or just your steadicam work. The shots are pretty straight forward, not too difficult. A couple of times you ran into headroom issues. It does seem like the same shot over and over. In the end I see you try to break them up a bit by going at different angles or using some foreground. Did you have choices in this or were you directed completly? For someone starting out it looks pretty good! colin
Premium Members Mike McGowan SOC Posted May 27, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 27, 2008 Not bad. I'd say too much head room on some of the medium shots. At some point it's just preference but at some point it becomes correct or incorrect, I think you were on the edge of incorrectly top framed on some of the guys walking. Next, I think you can feel too much of the camera and you moving. I understand that this spot sort of lends itself to some wavy, dutched, side to side, bob and weave motion but I would still try and (unless specifically directed to do so) keep it nice and level and smooth, let them wank it out in post. All and all, pretty good. my 2 cents.
Premium Members David Steel Posted May 28, 2008 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 28, 2008 Hey Guys thanks for the comments! i only did the steadicam work on this, and it was directed and edited by someone else! all though i wasnt a big fan of the swaying dutchies myself and i tryed to express that to the Director but he wanted it!.. also the head room issue! to be honest is one of my flaw's i have always had trouble with that but i'll keep practicing and have it under control one day! Thanks guys! ;)
