Premium Members Ken Niernberg Posted June 11, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 11, 2008 Hey guys and gals, So I'm doing a little research on sled depreciation, mainly for insurance purposes (but also out of curiosity). So i'm trying to find out what the price of a 3a gimbal was when it first came out. In fact if anyone knows of an old price list that has the whole 3a setup (vest, arm, sled) that would be helpful as well. Thanks -Ken
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted June 11, 2008 Moderators Report Share Posted June 11, 2008 Ken, I forget the price of the gimbal alone (maybe 3K???), but I I know in the early nineties, the last incarnation of the 3a was selling (vest, arm, & sled) for $44,000. Premium Members Derrick Whitehouse Posted June 11, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 11, 2008 Hi Ken The IIIA Gimbal sold for $3500 BACK IN 1989. Let me have your email address and I will send you a PDF copy of the 1989 IIIA price list. 1989 was the first year of the IIIA version Steadicam and the price was $40,000. The model III in 1988 was $38,500. I also have price lists as far back as 1981 for the Model II if anyone is interested. Premium Members Bud Kremp S.O.C. Posted June 13, 2008 Premium Members Report Share Posted June 13, 2008 FYI, I just looked it up online. "What cost $3500. in 1989 would cost $6060.83 in 2007." According to http://www.westegg.com/inflation/ Bud Kremp

Michael Sutton
Speaking of 3A gimbals, any idea where I could get the handle portion that fits onto the arm? mike msuttongnv@gmail.com
Michael Sutton
Derrick has told me this part is called a live yoke. I don't care if its machined, or aftermarket, etc as long as it will work with the 3A without having to replace the whole gimbal. Any help would be appreciated. mike sutton@rule.com
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted August 15, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 15, 2009 Very likely a company like Baerbel (germany ) can make this, in any color or size.
