Hi all,

Brad Grimmett suggested instead of Tin Horn Flats that we meet at Saddle Ranch at Universal City walk.

It's a much bigger place and much closer to cinegear so I think it's a great idea.

Brad will post the details here shortly.. Thanks Brad!!!

Hopefully no one has any problems with Saddle Ranch. It's a big place and it will probably get busy later in the evening, but I think it will be a good spot for us since it's bigger and closer than Tin Horn Flats. I was hoping that we could just walk from Cinegear to Saddle Ranch, but because of the parking situation for Cinegear I doubt this will be possible.

I haven't been to CityWalk in years, so I called Saddle Ranch and was told to park at Frankenstein (I'm assuming the lots are named), then go up the escalator and to the right and you will find Saddle Ranch. Parking will be validated, so bring your ticket. If for some reason you have to park in another lot I'm sure finding the place won't be too tough.

I haven't been to this particular Saddle Ranch, but I've been to the one in West Hollywood and the food is good and there are plenty of drink options.

People will probably start getting there at about 5:30pm, or as soon as they can once Cinegear is over.

There is a mechanical bull inside the restaurant which Ron and B.J. will be riding for our amusement. I'm told the saddle is generously lubed with Lisigav, which will make the ride even more exciting!

Here's the google map to CityWalk.

And here is a link to Saddle Ranch

And here are directions from the Cinegear parking to Citywalk parking-map-I hope this is right...if you're unsure please check for yourself.

I hope to see you all there.

I don't know if you've ever tried to go there on a saturday night but the place is PACKED from 4pm on and it's damn near impossible to hear yourself think.

I'd rather go to tinhorn flats since we are going to have to drive anyway

It does have a large outdoor area which helps on the noise factor, but I would probably agree with Eric on this. Plus leaving the parking areas at Citywalk can be rough at the end of the night when everyone is doing it.

Any thoughts about the Universal Bar & Grill? Think I've been there but can't remember...

I'll go wherever. I was just trying to come up with something close that was big enough that our large group wouldn't be an issue. As we all know, it's not easy to find a place that is close, not busy, and stays open late on a Saturday night, no matter where you are in town. I was told by the special events person at Saddle Ranch that it wouldn't be busy until much later, but I haven't been there, so I don't know. I'll go to the Universal Bar and Grill, or wherever else, but we should pick somewhere definitive soon so that everyone knows.

The Univ Bar/Grill usually has live music until the wee hrs. I love Lucy's that we've been hanging out at recently (but that gets pretty crowded too). There's an English pub (the Fox and the Hound) very close on Ventura. The fact that I don't know too many places just means I don't get out enough. Jumbos is just over the hill (BJ and I know our way around the vents).

Poor planning on my part -- I wanted to have it at mi casa but my lady's out of town (she will be punished) and it might be a bit much for me, my 4 yr old and the babysitter to manage!

So let me get this straight Ron--you live in the shadow of the Universal tower, your wife is out of town and we AREN'T hanging at your place???! C'mon, just put the DVD of Cars on auto-repeat and your kid will be perfectly happy; after all, he's used to loud drunk Steadicam guys, he lives with one.

I guess the only thing I'd have to say is that wherever we end up, we don't want to have to compete with a lot of noise since these hangouts are all about the gab. I just went to a friend's farewell party at a bar and it was all but ruined by the loud music.

Hey guys,

I just called Mo's restaurant in Toulca Lake. I've been there before and they have a bar and a private area for partys and gatherings.

It's big enough to accomadate us and it's a quieter place than all the places that have been mentioned and it's just north of universal city (not to far).

It is available and get this, I told the manager it was for the Steadicam Guild and he immediately replied with, "oh, so can you bring a Steadicam Junior with you to show it off to us?" He laughed and told me that a friend of his built a home made one. He said it was weird looking but worked. (what a small world)

Here is a virtual tour of the place.

I've always thought that place would be a good place to meet. Not sure why I've never called to reserve...

I need to call this place back this morning to make a definte reservation so I think if there are no more objections/suggestions we should think about this place. They have good hamburgers too and a toppings bar for your hamburgers, if memory serves..

I'm pretty sure he would only like to see the JR (and I have one) but if he does give me a free drink I'll let you have it Charles, because, hey, it's you! Plus, I don't drink, but then again if it's pop you might be out of luck because I do drink that..... annnnd I just typed pop again didn't I? ok.. Soda..

Let's just plan on Mo's then. Hopefully everyone will like the place.

Maybe we can do Saddle Ranch during the day sometime. Looks like a fun place.

The reservation is complete.

I told the manager 30 but said it could be more.

He said if it gets into the 40 range to make sure "everyone likes each other" as it

starts to cosey at that point, but it's still doable.

I'll send out an evite to the membership as well.
