Action Cam

I've laid hands on an Actioncam twice in the past year, not for very long or with the most critical eye but in my opinion, it's a solid rig for the money. I give Brian credit for not simply re-inventing the wheel, he is trying some things that range from smart to whimsical but at least aren't cookie-cutter. I thought the arm was actually quite nice, in fact based on my initial impressions I'd put it right after the PRO and G series arms in terms of performance, which is impressive given the price. Of course I can't speak to reliability and service related issues.

I must say that i'm happy that actioncam is once again at the IBC. It has been almost 5 years or longer according to Daryl. Now we finally had the oppurinty to try out the rigs and compare it now directly with tiffen, sachtler and glidecam. It was funny to see that they share a booth with a another company who makes accesories for the RED Camera. It was crowded friday, it was even more crowded at saturday. Somehow there are a lot of people out there who are curious about the performance of the products.

I have flown the Actioncam RED-Edition for 20 minutes and feels like a breeze. Charles is right, the performance of the arm just after the G series, the pro.. sorry never flown one. It's feels for sure better then the Glidecam Gold arm and the boomrange is impressive ! The arm is also very quiet.

The arm is not heavy.. The 2 inch post present was a carbon fiber one.., very very nice. On the stage a RED was mounted with some extra's like the m-one and bartech. At front just under the lens mounted on the rods, the new powerbox was present, unbelievable how many connections for power, lens control, video, sdi etc is possible in such a small box !

About the vest, to be honest it was funny. This because the operator before me (Andreas Kielb) is a small dude, i'm like 20 kilos heavier. So a lot (i mean a lot) of adjustments were needed to fit the vest for me. (i go to the sportschool again, i promise :)

Also i'm not used to a backmounted vest. It feels however much beter then the Sachtler backmount vest i tried before..

I think the guys, Brian and Daryl are nice guys, no fooling arround.. make a really cool product for a really nice price !

Just my 2 eurocents..

Best, Erik
