Premium Members Markus Rave Posted October 24, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 24, 2004 Thanks for the link David, but did you try one? I mean how does it behave under working conditions? Markus
Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted October 24, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 24, 2004 Hi Markus, No I actually haven't tried one. Just saw Ozzies' 320 in person- thought it would work very nicely. There are other brands out there too that I'm looking at. Creative Labs and Iriver also have 20 GB of storage 80 to 85 hours worth of video (which I think is plenty) for around $500 (saw these at best buy) Edit: I was searching the net for more recorders and saw the Archos 320 for $359. Not a bad price at all. http://www.shipdog.com/product.asp?i=ARCAV320
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted October 25, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 25, 2004 <_< Hmm, I think the Archos is the only one available that can really record directly from a video source (composite), the others are mainly HDD with a screen so you have to load them with firewire or usb2 BTW, I just saw here in one of the electronics/computer malls a shop with the Archos400. When I asked for the price he said they were out of stock. But I saw 2 of them laying under the glass counter and pointed at them. .....Broken, broken.....no good! They look absolutely nice, light, and if they are really reliable I want one, but now I am a bit scared......
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted October 25, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 25, 2004 Does anyone recognize this little recorder? Who makes it? http://www.supercircuits.com/store/prodinf...tem=22&mitem=23 Ramon
Premium Members RobVanGelder Posted October 25, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 25, 2004 Interesting, but with a hefty price tag and than you need to buy a bigger SD card for any reasonable time of rcording. But no moving components like a harddisk, so it must be more reliable. I wonder if it records real 25/30 Fps or it it does 15 Fps like some other SD-recorder/cameras. But anyway, it is an interesting development! here is a bigger picture on a pdf-file http://www.supercircuits.com/store/downloa...s/H-M/MDVR3.pdf
Premium Members Ramon Engle Posted October 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 Ok, here's one more that looks interesting. Especially the price. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...1407&vi=reviews Ramon Engle

Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted October 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 I have been using the A-320 for about a year now. Pretty cool, but the onboard battery is doo-doo. Finaly got around to having Fred make me a cable with the proper step down voltage and it seemed to work well. There was some noise on my TB-6 from the hard drive spinning...I didn't get to investigate the cause of the noise because it was stolen right off my rig during lunch the first day I used it with the new cable (Warner lot - ER - stage 11). Billed production, they were really cool about it and for the rest of the shoot there was a security guard posted at the cameras during lunch. Bummer...currently researching new ones. Premium Members Charles King Posted October 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 There's already a battery pack for the Archos Jukebox 020, Archos video av120, av140, av320, av340 & av380 models. Premium Members Markus Rave Posted October 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 Well the AV 420 seems to have overcome some problems of the 320 as the exchangeable battery, the internal increased resolution up to approx. 700 x 420 pixels. Means on a highres monitor you could actually have almost full PAL or almost full DVD resolution. And that means playback on the normal greenscreen should be able to deal with focus issues. Ron, would you consider buying the AV420 to exchange your stolen one or would you rather get your hands on a DV deck instead? Markus
Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted October 27, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 27, 2004 The archos 420 is a serious consideration. I think I'll wait until something bigger and better comes out and wait for the price to drop.. Oh and... Rumors of an Ipod video player... http://www.methodshop.com/mp3/articles/videoipod/index.shtml
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted October 30, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2004 I'd definately go with the hard-drive. I'm so behind with everything else in my life (I'm still dial-up, for example) I have to have at least one thing that might be considered cutting edge. Premium Members Markus Rave Posted November 2, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 2, 2004 I thank you all for your input. Looks like the Archos is a real competitor to a DV deck. The only thing to work out is the 20 GB or spending 300 USD more on having 80 GB.
Premium Members Charles King Posted November 2, 2004 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 2, 2004 Just for you info. The av300 hard drive can be upgraded to a 80gig drive, if you are handy with your hands. See this great personal site dedicated to the Av300: AV300 Have fun
