Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted January 17, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 A couple of questions for you guys using the archos or lyra..... Is the 20GB model of either of these big enough? How much recording time do you have? And which model do you own and why did you buy that one? Is the quality of either of these good enough to use for a reel, or are they just good for playback? Thanks.
Premium Members BJMcDonnell SOC Posted January 17, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 Hey Brad, Â Â My Lyra is really only good for playback. I would not use it for my reel. The battery life is short so you have to have a cable made for it to power up from your sled. It is easy to use though. Premium Members Simon Jayes Posted January 17, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 17, 2005 I think you'll find the prices are better on the web than from a retail store. Â I bought a AV-480 and have been very happy with the quality for playback, but it is still not good enough for a reel. Â I bought the 80gb thinking that I would need the room when recording in the highest quality, but in hindsight, 20gb is ample plus you have the ability to swap batteries out on that model (80gb's battery lasts about 4 hours so you have to power off the rig if you want to go longer - 5v @ 1amp) Â If you get the Archos, don't forget to get their "travel adapter" so you can hook it up without using the dock. Premium Members Christopher T. Paul- SOC Posted February 22, 2005 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 22, 2005 Hey- Â Wondering if anyone out there, who has successfully figured out the cabling in re: adapting the Archos video recorder to a sled, would like to chime in. I know that I will be looping signal out of my TB-6, but the connections on the Archos are funky at best. If anyone has had success with this and power cable adaptations, please share the wealth! Â Thanks in advance. Â Long live the memory of HST, he will be missed. Â Chris
Fred Davis
The power input is a 4mm coax barrel, center pole active for power. Video input is standard RCA. Â I've been making Y cables for customers, from sled (ex: onboard recorder port on PRO), carrying video signal and power to the recorder. This requires an in-line voltage regulator on the power leg, stepping down the sled's voltage output to the 5V input for the recorder. Â I STILL don't know what the video output connector is; any help from owners? It is conceivable to make a W cable allowing playback to the sled, but so far no customers have wanted that. Fred Davis
Several of my customers have had me make Y cables for this purpose. Using the onboard recorder port, and making a breakout to the ARCOS power input and an RCA for video, (This on the analog adapter for the Arcos) Â Making one cable for one of your sleds, an adapter can be made, mating with the sled's connector and adapting it to another sled's connector. Premium Members Jason Blount Posted October 4, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 4, 2006 I am having trouble opening the AVI files I download to my Mac from an Archos 420 on-board recorder. Does anyone know how I can convert the AVI files into quicktimes or a format that I can use with Final Cut on a Mac? Any advice would be great.
