Rigging

There may be indeed issues with the Red sliding baseplate to the handheld baseplate from what I have heard, it can slip when the rig is turned sideways for balancing, severe tilts etc. Red also has a standard baseplate that may offer an improved lock. The Element Technica dovetail system is much better and preferable (and will soon have a PRO-compatible integrated baseplate option).

If in doubt, you can always attach your dovetail directly to the bottom of the camera. This will however eliminate the lower rod assembly, so you should make sure that there is a clip-on mattebox available and you have provision to mount your motors off your dovetail (or the top rods on the camera, if those are in use). Many privately owned RED packages don't come with clip-on matteboxes which is part of the reason why a 10 lb body can turn into a 35 lb camera on the rig.
