Hi Job;

We don't generally put any prices (except our PMA line) on our website. I prefer a sound dialogue so that the equipment being considered is well understood before jumping to price alone. I encourage calling or e-mailing for all the details.

(For those that just want the price list it is now on the webpage for your convenience)

This transmitter looks very impressive. A lot of features a Modulus user dreams of. Is there anybody on the forum with experiences? I'm concerned about size and weight.

Question for Mr. E. Soos: Why is the unit not transparent to video standards? Good Monitors have a auto recognition, good transmitters should have it as well IMHO.

Best

P.S. How much is it?

I haven't had a ton of experience w/ the Canatrans, but the little I have was dissapointing. CSC, the Arri house here in NYC has recently bought a few units and the unanimous feedback from assistants I have worked with is "big mistake".

I was working on a show recently with 2 Canatrans. With both cameras not moving at 20 ft away, with the CIT hi-gain yagi antennas receiving it was a lousy picture at best, even at full transmission wattage from the Canatrans. One was on channel 42 the other was on channel 46, so there should have been no interference from each other.

As the operator, way too much time had to be spent by VTR & the assistants finding a somewhat acceptable picture. Dealing with menus on the unit was a pain. Too many adjustments to be made in my opinion. It is also almost twice the size of the Modulus 3000, certainly double the width.

The Modulus is tried and true. It is way smaller. Select a channel and that's it. No fussing. If the wattage is too much in close quarters put an attenuator on the antenna. Simple. Although I have never had a problem with this either too close/overpowered or too far away, a New York block away with lots of RF in between.

From what I heard when the Canatrans came out, it is more expensive than the Modulus, is that right? Anyone got the price?

In the testimonials on the website it has people's initials. L.McC. I am assuming is Larry McConkey. I didn't know Larry had one, but it would be great to get his 1st hand impressions if so.

Also, for all the bells and whistles why only 10 UHF channels? Ch 40-50?

Doesn't the Bartech become susceptible to interference at CH 50 and higher? Jim?

Too big. Too much fuss. Not enough channels. Not a good picture. In my experience.

The BFD can be interfered with by the Modulus, particularly when set to channel 50 or higher. I have no experience how well it works (or doesn't) with this unit.

Benjamin,

We are more or less transparent to the video standard. remember that we are on the transmitting end of things and we need to make special offsets for the European channels. We also need to make changes to the audio offsets which is 5.5Mhz on PAL vs. 4.5Mhz on NTSC. It is therfore that we have modified hardware and software running on both versions. The CanaTrans will give you exactly the channel you want on either PAL or NTSC units (unlike the Modulus where you have to account for offsets - I think channel 45 is the only channel that matches the frequency of PAL and NTSC audio notwithstanding)

Hi Will;

First of all I check in regularily with the techs at CSC to see how things are going. I have had so far very good feedback from them in regards to the function and operation of the CanaTrans. When I think of 20 feet away using high gain yagis (as you have described), that too can spell disaster on the reception end of things. Please remember that the transmitting a of a video signal (or any other signal for that matter) is a shared match between the transmitting and receiving end of the chain. A poorly mismatched system is always easy to blame on the transmitter. I can not tell you how many times I have found the receiving end to be at fault! The CanaTrans is the only transmitter on the market that will allow you to adjust your power levels to match your enviroment. No RF pads and no fuss. Just a couple of very simple keystrokes and you are done (easier than any cell phone menu I have seen). Not to mention the fact that you can adjust the video gain to give you a great picture when your video tap is maxing out. We have demonstrated the CanaTrans to transmit up to 1000 feet line of sight, so I really can't see why you had trouble with 20 feet. I suspect that there may be more to investigate here rather than to jump to conclusions regarding performance.

Secondly about the menu: Did you know there was a one button

"reset" to get the unit back to factory specs? If "others" messed the menu up and changed channels, power levels, gains and so one, you can in a matter of seconds bring everything back to a known state as described in the quick reference manual. A lot of thought was put into the interface and so far I have had compliments on the structure.

Thirdly. Indeed the Modulus has been around for a long time. I can only reply to those comments by the acceptance of major rental facilities in Europe that have now switched over to the CanaTrans as a result of it's superior technology and reliability. Channels and power level switching is a snap with the CanaTrans if one takes a minute to familiarize oneself with any new pieces of equipment.

Pricing and accessories can be requested from www.lentequip.com

Indeed L. Mc.C. are Larry's impressions, verbatim. My several calls to him after the fact have been very positive! He is very pleased with the performance.

Channel 40-50 are inclusive 11 chanels...

Will, I would encourage you to kindly contact me directly if you are having or have had difficulties with the CanaTrans, Lentequip is here to serve it's current and future customers alike.

As a sidebar....six years of solid development went into the transmitter. I can assure you that we did our utmost to give the Film and Video industry a solid performing unit that outpowers and outperforms anything seen before. The testamonials on my webpage are mostly from assistants that shelved their current transmitter in favour of a solid alternative.

Regards,
