Richard James Lewis Posted February 14, 2009 Report Share Posted February 14, 2009 Hey Job If you HAVE to take it apart yourself, I'd only touch the Pan Bearings. You won't find a tool as such, probably the easiest way is to find two steel pegs (possibly upturned drill bits) the size of the holes, set them up in a vice and set them to the appropriate spacing, lock the vice down on the two pegs. Then get the gimbal, invert it align pegs with holes on the gimbal top cap. Push on, and twist. Be careful to make sure you have appropriate downward pressure so you don't slip and screw up the aluminium and anodizing. Could have a machinist make up a tool too with the correct 4 hole spacing too I guess. Good luck. Rick. After 2 years of intensive use, i think i need to clean my mk-v V2 gimbal. If you have all your weight pressing down the gimbal onto the pins, then it won't go anywhere... plus they are usually on pretty f off tight, so you won't be able to get enough torque with the pin spanner. George Grammatikos Posted February 15, 2009 Report Share Posted February 15, 2009 hi i have open my v2 gimbal many times ,but i lubricate as i it is, i donot remove the bearring from inside ,i just unscrew the top ,lubricate and screw again ,maybe it was instict to avoid any problems (like centering the bearring)but i would like to hear how lucky i was ,Erwin ??? Richard James Lewis Posted February 15, 2009 Report Share Posted February 15, 2009 I don't quite understand the confusion. It's very simple inside... Remove the top cap; slide the pan assembly up and off. There are two bearings on either side of the pan assembly, separated with a spacer. Remove the bearings, clean in denatured alcohol or similar. Dry them thoroughly, then apply one drop of very light oil to each bearing racer, work it into the bearings, put the bearings back in the housing, put the spacer in, and re assemble. You are in no real danger there of changing the alignment of the gimbal if you are just cleaning the pan bearings. You will have to remove the two bearings to lubricate them, just adding more lube is just going to make them stickier, on top of all the extra crap that may have built up in there. If you want to, send it back to MK-V and they will sort it out. I guess they can check the alignment etc… It's really not scary at all.
