Premium Members Jeff Cook Posted February 18, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 18, 2009 Bob was the first “real” Steadicam Op I met, (back in the mid 80’s), and it had a profound effect on me. I know everyone had that moment when the though “I want to do that”, well working with Bob that day was my moment. God’s Speed Bob.

Premium Members Alfeo Dixon SOC Posted February 19, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 19, 2009 That's really great! Well done! I think that probably put a smile on his face :D Thanks Mike. A friend pointed out my incorrect use of two homonyms, if any admins care to correct for me (bare to bear and tails to tales) Sorry I didn't call you when I was down last week... i had a crazy MV that I dp'd, meet some really great guys like Eagon and Colonel. While over at CVT I had spoken about working with Bob to Eagon, I can only think that maybe IF I had called Bob also, maybe that could have been the day he would not have been on the boat and maybe fallen off a Miami Beach bar stool with me instead. Premium Members johnhankammer Posted February 27, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted February 27, 2009 I don't check in here too often. When I finally took a look today this thread made me update my info so I could make this post. I too am saddened by this news of Bob's passing. I'm one of those who was inspired by his full page ads in AC. When I was getting started, didn't have much money, and wanted to buy my gear there were only four or five used rigs which I could find for sale - in the world. The one that fit my budget was one of Bob's old model 3's. I drove all the way out here to L.A., from Denver, to check it out and pick it up. It was a quick trip, but I do remember he was very helpful, answered all my questions and even let me call him back later, several times, with more questions. I used that monster for a number of years till I was forced to replace it. In my own mind at least, I've thanked him ever since for helping me get started. Thanks, Bob. Kevin M. Andersen
As an operator who faced death in 2000 and had my career almost terminated I appreciate the fellowship among steadicam operators. I never knew Bob, but while I was recovering from Cancer I had a bunch of pictures that helped me focus on survival. Those pictures included my wife and children, family and friends. Then, as I rebuilt my body to begin working again I had one of Bob's ads on the back of AC Magazine on my wall as a symbolic representation of what can be achieved. So even though I never met Bob, his passing has affected me personally.

Premium Members David Allen Grove Posted March 2, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 2, 2009 Bob Ulland's Tribute video can be seen on the SOC website. It's youtube embedded so the quality and size are limited. If you want to a bigger and better quality version please visit the www.SteadicamGuild.net website. Thanks to everyone who contributed photos and video. Very much appreciated. Editing by Bob Joyce, voice over by "Father Steadicam"
