First off, i am sorry to whine...but I think there are other people out there that do not like this new forum, so i am going to try the one new feature that I do like from this 2004 format.

So here is the poll:

"What do you think of the 2004 forum?"

Personally I would like to see back:

1) the e-mailed daily digests

2) the ability to read ONLY the new posts

Without these features, i would rather we go back to the old style in 2005.

There is a " View New Posts" option avaialble on most pages (after you log in) that works really well for most users.

The daily email digests were a nice feature, but since the new forum supports formatting with HTML and the inclusion of images, emailed messages or digests would not work for everybody. A quick daily visit to the site to check for new messages does a better job.

Of course, members can still subscribe to the different forums (and even specific threads) and get notified by email when new posts are made.

Thanks for keeping this great forum going - good job. The new forum is good and the new layout(no more non-CP etc) works well IMO. Sure I miss the old style sometimes but a change is as good as a holiday, no?

Looking forward to another year of learning/participating.

Marc,

I'm with you, but I think we may be a minority.

Tim,

I think you misunderstood about the "view new posts" though. This IS my one major gripe. Once inside the list of new posts, you have to scroll through the ones you've already read unless it is over one page long (then you can jump to first unread - which by the way, I've noticed jumps to the end of the first unread so you have to scroll up or you miss a post). Can we always have the option to jump to the first unread? I know you can jump to the last post and scroll up, but it would be great to be able to go right there.

Thanks for all your hard work.

Alec,

When you sign in to the website click "View new posts" in the upper left hand corner. When presented with the threads containing new posts each topic will have a small blue button to its left which will take you to your last unread post in that thread. Should save u all that scrolling.

Although i was opposed to the new style forum initally i have to admit im coming around to it now; especialliy if it makes life easier for the guy who has to keep it running.

Thanks tim,

Tim, The marking of posts and the "view new posts", never seem to work properly. This is extremely frustrating. I have marked posts read, then returned to find them all back. Way to time consuming.. Help... Please make this idiot proof ( for guys like me) after marking a post, it should go away, never to be seen again, unless pulled up from archive.

jeff,

if you are using IE,

try tools> internet options> temporary internet files>settings. set to "every visit to the page" (IE6) this should refresh your cache to mark the posts "read".

Thanks Marc, But I suspect this wont help if you check in on multiple computers?? This was the most convenient feature of the "old" forum.
