When last I checked, the Hummingbird was around$3000.00 and the Blackbird which basically included a PRO compatable pin and a frameline generator was around $5000.00 I have no idea what the Transvideo models cost.

I paid £1500 for my rainbow superbright . I believe the cineIIa superbright is £2200

I have been using a Transvideo 3a superbright for about 6 months now. My previous monitor was a pro 2 monitor.

 

The pro monitor was a rugged and reliable tool with a great image - visable in all conditions. I had great success with this monitor for almost 10 years. No complaints.

 

Why switch? Well, the most obvious reason for me was that the LCD monitor is about 3 inches thick. In most cases where I was pressing in very close to an object/furniture/lighting device - the monitor would be the limiting factor. If I hit something, most of the time the monitor was the culprit. Slimming the monitor down to a much smaller size seemed like a great advantage.

 

Also, I believe working with a color image can be a big plus. There have been more than a few occasions in my experience where objects of very similar tone get "lost" in the image on a monochrome monitor. Also, the vast majority of my work is seen in color. I really like that I can use color as one of the elements of a composition - If you don't recognize that brightly colored object then how can you use it (or lose it) to improve your shot?

 

Is the Transvideo better than the PRO monitor? For operating in bright sky/sunny day conditions I think the PRO monitor is much better. I would very rarely ask a grip for help shading the Pro monitor - maybe a couple of times in a YEAR. With the Transvideo monitor, a monitor shade and grip help becomes a much more frequent request. I also had transvideo apply an anti-glare coating ($105) which I consider an absolute must. Without the coating, the monitor was super sharp, but it was also like a mirror.

 

I've found that the Transvideo can't be flipped upside down without a significant loss of viewability. Also, having framelines built into the PRO monitor was a big plus. I have had to purchase a frameline generator to go with the monitor.

 

Working on stage or in the shade - I like the Transvideo. Great picture in a large screen and the color image is very good.

 

For me, right now, I think the Transvideo is a good choice. Transvideo has been really great with customer service. Of course I can buy 3+ Transvideo monitors for the price of the PRO 2.

Well, i am looking around for such an lcd too, but i still am not sure which one to get. I Use the L7 pro right now, but am intressed for more bright picture. The difference between the CineIII and the Blackbird is about 1200 dollar. I have read a lot of the posts about the lcd's around here, still not sure if the difference justify the 1200 us.

 

Is there some op that have been use them both? Ore make tests with both?

Hi everyone. I have the same question about the differences between the new MK-V /V2 monitor and the 6" Transvideo Cinemonitor 3 SuperBright. I have been waiting for my MK-V for a year now. Had to buy the buy the Transvideo 6" SuperBright along with its add on frameline generator in the meantime. I do not like the task of adding on the frameline generator everytime, however the image has done well in bright sun. I use it on my GPI-PRO. It also fits the sled case with the monitor attached. I'm not sure if I want to cancel my MK-V order or not. Does anyone else have experience with the pros and cons of both these stated monitors and there individual features ?? I on't own either of these monitors, I'm doing my homework as to what monitor I'm going to purchase. If I'm not mistaken the key difference between the two monitors (Blackbird/Traansvideo IIIa) is that the blackbird will take an SD SDI (standard def digtal) signal as well as analogue, where the transvideo will only take a pal/ntsc analogue signal. There is a good comparison of the two monitors here.....

I'm sure Howards V2 is worth waiting for but I think the only alternative is Chrosziels Sunbird! I think it's the same panel but with a different software...wonderful frameline, the possibility to ad a digital level and a direct in/out (incl 5v) for the archos! I've had it for about 2 month now (on my MK-V Nexus) and it's the best I've seen so far! You can check it out under www.anthrazit-design.com

Guido thats not totally correct. You can get a Hummingbird Blackbird from IMP electronics directly. I have owned one for about a year now and I am pretty happy with the performance and service.

Has anyone tried or seen the Transvideo Cinemonitor IIIa monitor on an Ultra? I'm trying to work out the best way to mount the monitor while preserving the function of the original monitor rods. Any ideas are appreciated.

have a look on the transvideo site 'customers' Mark de Blok

 

simply use the green screen arc and add a battery to the monitor, like a pag cobalt

or a Lithium Ion, this will give you about the same mass compared to a green screen and will make dynamic balance easy

Thanks Mark,

I was able to figure out a pretty nice solution for mounting the monitor. Whether there is enough mass to the monitor without a battery remains to be seen. Buying an Anton -Bauer counter-balance seems a pricy way to add weight.

How are you?

When considering another monitor, you should also consider a Hummingbird. I own one, and the picture is great and very very bright. Certainly bright enough for any daylight conditions. The weight is very good relative to the balance with a CRT, and the price is about the same as a transvideo.
