Transvideo CINE III

I just traded my back up Transvideo for a 2nd TB-6...

PLEASE tell me how I can trade my Transvideo LCD for a TB-6! Not that I don't like my Cinemonitor, but if I can pay $3,000 for that and trade for a $15,000 monitor...

Sarcasm aside, I tested the "daylight" Boland a few months ago. Seemed to work fine until the sun reflected directly into the monitor and then it became a full wash of light - no image visible whatsoever until I cleared the reflection. I voiced my concern to them and they seemed interested in my feedback so I don't know if they've improved it or not, but definitely test this for yourself before plunking down the dough.

I'm seriously considering a Marell. Jason Dittmer showed me his and says he loves it. Anybody else using one of these who would care to comment? How does it compare to the PRO and TB-6?

Dan

It's 13'500.-.... not 15.

Anyways...

I used one after the "my PRO 1 monitor went swimming" incident... a couple of years back.

As they state again and again on there website and the ads, the marell is advertised and sold as a back up monitor only....

I had two jobs back to back that same week. One on a dark stage wide open following a black cable on black ground in low mode... the other, chasing Jason Statham and Kock-turn-Ol all over griffith park... both times I couldn't see sh@# ! That was the same shoot where somebody used a european cell phone and screw up my BFD... as said that was a couple of years ago.

I got not asked back at either show... How can you compose a nice frame if you can't see anything?

The Marell is a very good back up monitor, just in the 2 extreme, very bright or very dark environment it shows that the 4500 Volt power supply is no match to any of the Professional CRT's like the PRO, TB-6 or the Master... that all sport a 11'000 to 15'000 Volt power supply. If I remember right (please correct me).

I have not seen any of the newer models... a couple of people have and still are using this monitor as the primary unit. It works very well in well lit studio environments...

It's a great alternative to low cost LCD's, for beginners or as a back up or as Ron Baldwin uses it as the cheapo monitor if the UPM is trying to screw you out of money for your rental... or as crash monitor for running rigs.

Try it and see for yourself as said time and again, maybe you'll like it.

I was happy as can be when Greg Bubb send me a TB-6 and said "pay me when the Insurance pays you..." which they did 4 months later, Greg didn't ask me once for cash in that period...

As said try it and make up your mind.

Good Luck,

"It's 13'500.-.... not 15."

I think it is actually $14500 now with duel framelines (just did insurance values recently and asked Greg).

As for the Marell? The new "High Brightness" is supposed to be better than the previous models (I think they may even have dropped the "backup" tag, but not sure). Haven't seen one though, so check them out for yourselves. I suspect they are somewhere between a TB-6 and an LCD. I make no secret of the fact I hate LCDs for Steadicam, so it may be worth looking at.

Gustavo, what exactly is wrong, the picture or something else?

I remember you had some problems with the power supply.

The website (specifications) states that there are 2 versions, one for 11-13 volts and one from 9 to 36 volts.

The last one must be working ok for us?

please explain more.

I am keen on my transvideo ultrabright. Admitidly... when I started in steadicam all I could afford was a panasonic 7in and I have never really operated on a day to day basis with an 11,000v green screen. The days I have used an ultra rig I have found it to be cool but I suppose I need to hammer a green screen for ages to learn to hate the little things on an LCD.

In response to low light shooting and seeing framing. I find in low light conditions.. shooting at 500t pretty much if my modern video tap to transvideo is looking dark well it ain t really on the neg. But this is a rubbish way of looking at it.

I am happy with my transvideo ultrabrite.

same as you thomas , i'm absolutly happy with my HB transvideo .

it's realy a pleasure to work with this .

be carrefull with publicity for lcd day light garanty that looks like mirrors in full sun . i've loose some money before with monitor like these .

there is one important thing to know about the transvideo monitor , they are working in 2 ways , buttons on the right or button on the left , but there is only one way for steadycam use , where you have a 110° of viewing without problems . some operators mout there monitors the wrong way .

Welcome to the forum; glad you could make it. David Ellis here in the city has the monitor in question. Being the gentleman that he is, I'm sure you could arrange to see it.

By the way, please change your log-in name to your full name.

After having absolutely no image in bright sun today i broke out my owners manuel for my Panasonic TC-7WMS1 LCD. Its great on stage but was sucking out loud in the sun. After reading a bit I found that increasing the BLACK level improves viewability for an angle looking down on the monitor. Decreasing the BLACK level improves viewability for a low angle looking up at the monitor.

What a huge diference. Anybody else experienced this?

I wonder if this adjustment is partcular to only this monitor? I haven't really used any other LCD monitors besides my black bird.

Morgan I'm glad this little bit of info could help someone else.
