Premium Members Michael Stumpf Posted May 7, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 7, 2009 Not sure if this is old news or not, but was at GPI this morning to have a minor service (thanks again Jack and Ashley) after a bit of vehicle mount on the beach work yesterday and I noticed a very fresh batch of unannodized J-Box covers on the table. Jack mentioned they are the first batch of the new HD compatible ones and are probably still wet" Hmm, I didn't know of this I stated. He said, "well that's because nobody has them yet." How much for the upgrade I inquire. "We haven't even gotten that locked in yet." Basically they are the upper and lower J-Boxes with an HD-SDI compatible BNC connector on them, so guys flying HD monitors can now get an HD signal through the post. Jack mentioned they will be out "soon". My guess is they will show them at Cinegear (may even start selling them before hand.) Cheers That would be quite a trick, as GPI is not attending this years CineGear... neither are: Preston, Arri, Panavision... and a bunch of other regulars. There is supposed to be an open door day at GPI where they will introduce the new HD compatible components... AFTER CineGear... and with a backlog of 14 weeks on Lemo's... Just an FYI... Looks pretty much just like our current J-Boxes, just an extra port. Not sure about the Lemo situation either, but GPI must be getting around that somehow, as doubtful they'd of just finished the first batch of the new HD Boxes I saw on the 7th if they didn't have Lemo connectors for them. Lemo won't do a special run unless they order many thousands. I was there last week and checked out the pieces. Looks cool -- but I can't wait to watch it plugged into an accessory loaded f-900, f-23, f-35, or genesis (the d-21 doesn't count since I can power it off my stock pro1 ni-cads!!). probably won't be available until Aug-ish. JP This has both, the center co-ax is for HDSDI and the composite signal uses two of the regular pins. I'm a bit confused Ron, why would there be any different power draws from the HDSDI port on the new J-Box than say running a normal monitor? If anything, I'd think it would be less power used, as those with HD monitors would no longer need to run a downconverter on the cameras that don't have downconverters built in.
