Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted May 28, 2009 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 28, 2009 All- For G-70 owners: an idea popped up at the SOA workshop to extend the horizontal range of the arm. Based on Chris Fawcett’s idea for his G-50 arm (which works wonders by itself), we removed the small block that restricts the male socket block’s travel against the torsion spring. For the G-70 arm, we also changed the “kick-back” link into a “kick forward” link. The combination (as seen in the photos) has the effect of extending the range of arm movement to the left (normal operating) and the same extended range of movement to the right as we had with the old kick-back link. The only trick is that it requires a slightly new technique to insert the male socket block into the female one on the vest – as the block that keeps everything in a straight line is removed. Small learning curve. The other benefit of the technique (both for the G-50 and G-70) is that the arm does not bang against the block anymore when running. Three photos illustrate how the arm moves relative to the socket block. Jerry Sled way to the right, arm links fold out of the way "normal operating position" Sled way to the left - extended reach

Now, how do I get the upgrade? All the best, Guido Guido- If you have a G-70, just remove the small block and reverse the normal kick-back link into a kick forward one (like one does for going goofy and back). Nothing to buy, just something to remove. The technique will also work for other arms - it started with the G-50 and Chris Fawcett but the part works the same on all arms. Won't help with reach across the body, but will improve how arms folds out of the way when working to the right (normal) or left (when goofy/arm attaches on the left). BTW, all good, book doing well. In LA next week for Tiffen party, CineGear... Jerry

Premium Members Jerry Holway Posted May 29, 2009 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted May 29, 2009 hi jerry what Gimbal is that ? this is the photo Luis- It's the Ultra2 gimbal. The stage motor transmitter was removed for charging, (and the filler piece not installed) - hence the flat you see in the photo.
