It's not perfect but does perform ok in slow pans. With so little to adjust on it , it is far from the versatility of the "real" units made specifically for us but for 50$, it is just that cheap and works for most situations (straight line, slow ending moves, stand-bye from action...) Cheers.

I just received a very small digital level aimed at the DSLR market but still a liitle marvel . It has a dampening and led brightness button. It works on small watch batterys for about 30 hours. Has automatic off after 20 minutes. It comes with 3 sets of batteries. And it works. Green LED in the middle, two yellow ones on each side and red LED's on both ends. It is small (just over an inch long) but LED's are bright. I have a Marell digital level on my sled but when I use my Boland HD monitor , I use it just underneath the monitor and it's great. As for the batteries, you can modify the sled to accept AB bricks and I would strongly recommend going that road. You would have to buy an Anton Bauer plate and have it adapted to the Master mount. I found this picture on the steadicenter of Afton 's sled: The other battery you see in front (left) is the 24v upgrade that Afton actually sells on it's web site (don't think you need that mod done but it is possible to run 24v cameras with this mod) You could probably do it yourself with a few tools but some people do this as a living, send your bottom sled to David Hable at Cramped Attic and he would do it in a blink with professional results and this would probably cost around one battery recell.... He would also be able to check anything else that would need attention regarding electronics on the sled. For the cardboard box problem , I would go for a Pelican style case with padded dividers. Simple and protective, you can velcro the dividers anyway you want and if you add or substract things in the future, you can just realign the dividers accordingly. There is Pelican, stormcase and Nanukcase that will offer an economical and logical solution to your cardboard box dilemma. I personally prefer the Nanuk ones for their latching system that I find the most ingenious . Good luck . Your story reminds me mine when I would play around with a dead model IIIA at the back of a rental house here in Montreal and tried to put it together to shoot our school shorts at the time... Must have used a dozen of gaffer tape rolls on the vest and sled to hold everything. You are lucky enough to have a Master sled in your hands , a "real" sled compared to a LOT of "wannabees" on the market today. Fly safe

Charles is right about power, 4 pins xlr , 12 v. The 8 pin lemo is a phase controller plug. the 4 pins xlr is right above the 8 pins lemo. The onboard battery always directly connects to the xlr port, or maybee you have an old adapter to use some NP-1's plugged in to the port. Anyway, an image is worth a thousand words...:

Hi Claus, A viable option would be to contact Walter Klassen. Since he has all kinds of padding and a tailor shop to make his back mount vests , he might be able to help. I have no clue if he ever did some padding for PRO vests but it's worth the try. Cheers.

Almost all of the music videos that were shot on 16 are now on RED here in Montreal. Did 4 of them in the last 2 months and one in 35mm. I have shot my last feature with a Sony F900. I am going for another feature in november shot in RED. HD / Digital cinema (RED,genesis,D21) is giving film a hard time and that is why I bought a Boland HD LCD to take care of those jobs. I am just annoyed to still have a BNC cable going from the camera to the LCD on my PRO sled. Is there any news from the GPI crew about a future update for our sleds regarding HD signal going thru the post? I would send my sled tomorrow for such an upgrade. Tiffen and Sachtler are offering HD solutions already. So anyone in the loop regarding a future update from GPI ? Thanks. Fly safe.

Hi John, As a reduser.net member, I can tell you a used RED is not an option right now. Waiting list for a new one is about 4 months and a few owners are selling them back on reception to try and get a premium from those who can't wait. Warn you the original warranty (one year) only applies to the original owner. I have seen one or two on Ebay (still with a premium) but they vanished about a day later (probably sold off ebay). Check the REDUSER site , you might get lucky. Cheers.

Hi TJ, After playing and using the FFV mini-dvr recorder for a year, here is my review of it: it is the simplest digital recording unit. You power it on, you press REC, that's it. Every time you press stop, it assigns a quicktime clip to it. So going thru takes is a breeze. You can playback in a sec using your sled's screen. It records on Compact Flash cards (2 of them) I have put two 4GB in each slot and I have lots of recording time (about 11 hours). It does not make a sound (no fans, no bip-bip when you press buttons) It works with AA batteries (4) or from an external source (12 volts). It's flat with no screen so you can "butter" it with velcro and it fits perfectly on the PRO recorder bracket. All of this is nice but at a price tag too steep against other options available so cheaply today. The unit is around 2500$, but consider getting specific cables for your sled. Check the FFV PDF to see the technical data and pin configuration. All the buttons are on the end of the unit and hard to reach or read, I got a small "remote" box (from cramped attic) with REC-Stop buttons to use it more efficiently. If this unit was less than 1000$, I would go for it in a sec because it is well built and simple and does what we need. But for 3 times that money, I would be ready to live with a less friendly device and be happy with the money I saved. PROS: well built, solid, simple, quicktime clips, CF cards, AA batteries and 12 v. CONS: no screen, way too expensive

there are two small fans on top of the casing and that is the first thing I noticed when I powered the thing. It can't be possible to have the same fans. It reminds me of the first generation of the Cinemonitor from Transvideo that had the same kind of fan. Your review of the Boland , Mike, was among the ones I remembered when I was looking at new HD monitors. And I will try the monitor no later than tonight (with a 435, I guess the fans won't be a problem...). I'll at least check how it balances with my setup. Cheers.

Hi all, Just received my Boland monitor, if anyone is interested in that monitor, here is what you have to know before buying. The monitor only takes 11-13 volts, so I had a voltage regulator put in the box by David Hable at crampedattic. (300$). The 8 pin Lemo for PRO owners was also added for 100$. Also, the new monitors don't have the on-off switch to shut the internal fans. That means you will have to also get that done (add an external switch) because sound will be a problem, there are 2 small fans on top of the monitor. I first taught the on-off option was now in the on-screen menu but no, fans are on and running all the time. And since the manual is not up to date and states that there is a switch to turn them off, I have to send it back to David to take care of it. I will report on it's quality when I get a chance. It does look promising , the matte screen is superb and I can't wait to try it in daylight. I'm sure I'll get hooked real fast on the screen size and colors... As always, David as been a great resource into solving all the problems rapidly. I even went thru him to buy the monitor, less hassle and he has direct contacts with Boland. Fly in color

I've had a Sachtler Artemis Cine HD for 5 years and had a very good experience with all of the products they offer, then got stolen and bought a PRO because of my strong canadian dollar.
