  1. This thread is exemplary. The best of what The Forum offers to all Operators world-wide. Thoughtful discussion offering solutions in a positive framework. Glad you seem to have found the core issue. The comments regarding tending all things that MIGHT vibrate loose on a Steadicam are quite useful and always worth regarding. In the heat of battle we lose sight of the small bits and sometimes the smallest bits can bite hard. Fly well and enjoy your Zephyr ! 10. Oh gosh far from hiding any ideas. Glad to write it out here. First of all, I'm eager to try Eric's solution ( pun intended ). Anodized aluminum on anodized aluminum is astonishingly dry. Just the Ghobi Desert of dry. My go-to squeak fix costs . 99 cents and lasts for months. Get a stick of Chap-Stik. Rub a bit on your finger. Apply to the squeaky bits. The wax lasts much longer than a thinner lubricant, does the job, and can be reapplied in the field quickly. However, if this aquatic goop that Eric has soaks into the top molecular layers of the metal and creates an area of true lubrication, I'd love to try it out. Best to all, Peter Abraham

  13. Hi David, First of all, this Forum is a positive place where people learn and share and support each others' efforts. No need to apologize for working things out on your own !! I owned a MS Elite for a long time. If you have any issues arise that are specific to that rig, post them here and by all means feel free to email me directly. Enjoy the rig ! 14. In Toronto a few years ago at one of my workshops, we tinkered around with an LE in extreme low mode. We used a very long post to drop from the F Bracket to the handle ( which hung inverted, of course. ) It made for quite a bit of vibration. A good reminder of why we don't sell extended length arm posts for the smaller rigs- we work hard to avoid any vibration in any situation and using a thinner post that is so long as to allow the camera to brush the ground would induce vibration. Better to use our low mode cage. 078-2038-01 $ 550.00 for the video cage with 12" rods. 15. More an aphorism than a parable... It's not the time it takes to take the takes. It's the time it takes between the takes to take the takes.
  16. Lars Erik, nicely said. When I was Operating full-time, I knew enough to never get into the car after wrap feeling as though I'd nailed every shot. Humility is one misstep away, one split-second of framing that isn't just exactly what the story needed at that moment, one tiny angle of tilt or pan too little or two much. It's what kept Operating endlessly interesting and engaging. You are either in the moment 100% of the time, or you really have no business being on that set. It's that 100% engagement that shows through in so many posts on this message board. Peter Abraham Dir. of Technical Services, Steadicam™ The Tiffen Company 26 years as an Operator.

  20. We could just replace the lenses with Lemos and voila !!! :) Ditto with Charles and Alec. Component failure is avoided at great cost and effort. As the late great Ted said, " Don't worry- 90% of the time, it's in the cable ". As long as you've got redundancy and have eliminated every potential component failure, you'll be good to go. Where's that spare arm?
  21. Anyone have phone or email for our friend in NY? Please email it to me. Many thanks !!! Best, Peter pabraham@tiffen.com
  22. Hey guys, Thank you one and all for the help. I've got both a TriAx to CoAx turnaround kit coming and a light thin true TriAx coming. I knew that the community would offer up help. :) John, have a blast in there. I turned down the offers through the years to do the ABC show every New Year's Eve. Now of course I wish I'd done at least one. Best, Peter ( Now, the fun part- making live t.v. next week for a day !!! )
  23. Hi folks, I need to lay hands on two items. I'm helping someone in the Live T.V. world check out a Steadicam and need to use the parts to properly show the rig. 1. A set of tri ax to co ax adaptors and the coax that runs in between them. 2. If anyone HAS, a genuine very thin flexible TriAx cable. CP used to sell it,then Tiffen did till the custom-pulled spool ran out then. It was a silicone-sheathed cable. Please email me if you've got some of this stuff on hand. Will pay FedEx both ways of course. I need it in hand by Jan 4, and will send it out Jan 5 back to you. Many thanks in advance, Peter Peter Abraham Director of Technical Services, Steadicam® GM, Steadicam Workshops Program The Tiffen Company 90 Oser Avenue Hauppauge NY 11788 (917) 453-1219 (845) 595-2270 Fax pabraham@tiffen.com http://www.thesteadicamworkshops.com Skype: peterabrahamsteadicam
  24. Hi David, Glad to have my fellow Tiffen Steadicam colleagues at the factory dig for it. Fair warning- I owned a MS Elite™. The manual was fairly thin, but periodically CP did send out additional pages to it. I'll see what we can scare up. Please email me your info directly. As for the remote- I'm told it CAN be done in the field but is tricky. Will get details and email you those as well.
